CCU stadium looks like a Backyard Football 2002 situation.

You see what ours looked like before our upgrades?

Nope. I don't have the time to study minor Texas schools. I am glad you built an expansion.

So, Army is a "major" school now? Or are you simply biased against other "minor schools" located specifically in Texas?

The SEC considers us P5! :)

Seriously, by any metric of television and notoriety, Army is a major team. We have a contract for our games, our attendance is still 30,000 despite some struggles, we have National Championships, Heisman winners, legends, Hall of Famers galore, our rivalry game is played on CBS (The only time I have seen a Sun Belt team on CBS is on the bottomline!) and we have a cherished role in college football history.

That is major. It is like realignment, Rutgers and Maryland weren't the best on the field teams but they had other skills that made them major.

I like the Sun Belt and root for you fellows against the big boys but there is way too much Army bashing on this board. I get it, we are currently down but we are major in terms of universities and aren't directional schools playing second fiddle and at the mercy of state governments which wish to kill your athletics. I understand that there is some envy coming from the newer programs which don't have any history. I deal with the same crap on the AAC board from USF and UCF fans. I tried to start a weekly history lesson for some of the older teams (SMU, Tulane etc) but little minds and jealous hearts trolled it.

I thank UL for giving us Chris Cagle!

By no definition is Army a P5. A "major brand"? No argument there. A P5? Not even CLOSE. And being retired USAF, of course I respect and pull for all of the service academies...but I'm also aware of the fact Air Force is in the same boat as Army and Navy - NON-P5's but cherished and "major brands" with lots of media love - just like BYU is for that matter. On the field though, in most years (let's just be real here), Army would get torched by the top-half of the SBC.
I like Liberty I just don't think they fit well in the SBC. I would like to see them get a shot at FBS because I think it would be fun to watch.

Kudos man. Army is a major school by any metric I can think of except recent on-field success. With Monken there I believe that will change. Whether he can equal the success Navy is having is up in the air. Army's mission is somewhat different than Navy's and Air Forces, so it might be more difficult getting recruits. But I think he'll find what he needs to build a winning program.

Army is far more world-renowned than my alma mater, Georgia Southern; it's more prestigious than my other school, South Carolina (which I attended), and I'd lay odds more people respect a degree from West Point than they do one from Coastal (where I also attended, by the way, back when it was still a college and before the influx of yankees crowded up the whole coast).

It's probably one of the best academic institutions in the world. It's the nation's military academy. It has a great history and its graduates have gone to command armies and serve as commander in chief. How the hell anyone can consider it not to be a major school is beyond me.

PS. Speaking of Coastal, did I dream it or was there a time when the school colors weren't teal? My own recollection of the semester I spent there is sort of hazy. I could've sworn the colors had red in them back then (1980s).
Army is an FBS football program with an incredible history, but it also has zero chance of cracking a Major bowl game, so I'm not sure it's too different than the SBC now. Historically, yes.

Overall, this thread has gotten way off track. The entire purpose was to discuss Coastal's Stadium expansion progress, it was never about Liberty, or Army. The SBC is very happy with Coastal's membership, and no one is regretting that simply because a state board is doing something that basically every other Sun Belt Program in existence has faced at some point.
Does anyone consider University of Chicago, Washington University, or any of the Ivies to be "major"? At worst, Army is in a category with them. At best, their status is "n/a". They're a totally different beast and worthy of every bit, and more, of the high profile attention they occasionally receive. But radio isn't at the forefront of media dispersement anymore, just like they're not a major anymore.
My brother is heading to West Point and I am mighty proud of him. I have been an Army since high school and now I have even more invested in them.

I hope CCU makes good. Great mascot and colors.
[WINKING FACE] I know a school that could help out. Liberty to the SB just isn't going to happen. I can understand Coastal, but when EKU was under consideration that cemented my view that Liberty and the SB ain't happening. I wish Coastal well. CCU has been a good rivalry with Liberty the past several years.
I just really don't understand the disrespect and negativity amongst Liberty and SBC fans. I am glad CCU has the opportunity to move into FBS and continue to move up and improve. It is great for their school and their fans. It hopefully will be good for the SBC. At the very least it gives you a great early season road trip to vacation. It makes no sense to me when you hope for failure of a university or athletic program that you have no relationship with or rivalry against. If a university shows a commitment and desire to play at the highest level, they should be afforded that opportunity. Hopefully things work out for CCU and the SBC. Best to you both. Hopefully we get our shot some day. I know I am just as ready as the school is. I hope the whole stadium expansion/finance thing works out for CCU. It sucks when you feel like politics/others are standing in the way of your success or commitment to growth.

I honestly think it's because of the way your fans acted when they flooded the SBC board a while back. Y'all were like GS fans turning every thread into a discussion about y'all.

I was actually up in Lynchburg for the Airshow this past weekend. Having been a student at ECU and growing up going to Appalachian football games, it is asinine to ignore the fact that Liberty has everything in place to be a player in major college football. It truly is a shame that politics are affecting the possibility of adding Liberty to the Sun Belt because the area is beautiful, accessible, and Liberty pretty much owns the city of Lynchburg and will be able to grow as they wish. An addition of Liberty and Coastal, with dropping NMSU and Idaho would push the Sun Belt above C-USA and the MAC within 5 years.

The interesting thought here is that the disrespect toward Liberty actually stems from the inherent fea that if they were added they would already have a larger athletics budget than most if not all of the Sun Belt. I doubt it solely stems from an overrunning of a message board.

I just meant that's why I thought most on here don't like Liberty. I'd hope the presidents would have a more rational reason.

Personally I like Liberty, I was up there a couple weeks ago and the facilities blow almost all of the SBC teams to shame. I hope y'all get the shot because I think you are ready for it.

They have nice facilities, but you are obviously completely out of touch with reality if you think their facilities "blow most of the sun belt away."

Coastal's baseball facility is nicer than theirs, and our football stadium will be nicer after the proposed expansion.

And as always...people have found a way to make the discussion about an irrelevant big south team that no one wants to be associated with...sigh....

How do they compare to these?
Easy. They don't.

one of these things just doesn't belong here.....
Ironically GS' stadium is like the reverse of Liberty's 2 decks on one side, 1 on the other.

These would be among the best in the SBC. It's not a dig at other schools but saying they don't have the facilities is mind boggling.

These aren't sports facilities that would be use by other teams. They're facilities for their own students.
