While Creighton's AD did specifically mention Wichita State by name, his views are not the deciding factor in any expansion decisions by the Big East. The Presidents are the ones who would approve of any new members, and if you look at the 10 current schools, all are of the same institution (Private and/or Catholic).

The C7 had the opportunity to snatch a number of public schools when they reorganized the Big East, and they chose not to send invitations to VCU, UMass, Wichita State, George Mason or any public school. That was a real telling decision as to what direction they planned on taking the conference.

not really though. Xavier and Butler were by far the 2 best options at the time. And western teams wanted a program and Creighton closer than Wichita is.

And if VCU and or Wichita continues to perform, you better believe Fox will be putting pressure on them where if they expand to look at them. and the Big East needs to keep Fox happy as the deal will be over in only 9 years- and they need Fox.
Fox needs more people watching FS1. So they need large fan bases to watch the games. Wichita State, VCU, and Dayton all have large passionate fan bases. The question is who would be 14 I think you go with Saint Louis to bridge the gap but UNI would also be an interesting choice.

WEST
Creighton
Wichita State
Northern Iowa
St. Louis
Marquette
DePaul
Butler

EAST
Xavier
VCU
Georgetown
Villanova
Seton Hall
St. Johns
Providence
Bigeasthomer to be announced as the new commissioner

So, jdgaucho, talk to your AD, tell him the time is now for UCSB to send its application in to the Big East. 07-coffee3

Nothing says like-minded better than DePaul and UC Santa Barbara. A beach city and Chicago. Fox will be all over those games.
If the Big East is willing to take public schools, I think their first choice should be UConn - however UConn accepting could depend largely on what the Big 12 does. If Big 12 takes 2 AAC schools like Cinci and Memphis (without including UConn obviously), UConn should jump at the chance to go to Big East with football indy. If the Big 12 doesn't expand, I'm not sure if UConn would leave for the Big East - but if I was their president I would.

Big East really doesn't even need to add a 12th with UConn either, they can still play round robin with 11 teams. Big East currently has only 7 baseball playing teams, adding UConn would make scheduling easier having an even number of teams.
There is a big what to do with Wichita State, St. Louis and Dayton basketball.

WSU is stuck in a declining Valley. St.Louis and Dayton are on the geographical fringe of the A10.

If Dayton and St. Louis would just move to the MVC the conference issue Wichita State has would be solved.

A declining Valley which earned two bids and should have had a representative in the Sweet 16. Sure.
What's the hold up on St. Louis? Add Detroit and SLU then call it a day.
Dayton and St. Louis solidifies the conference with like-minded institutions towards the future.

True but Xavier is blocking them.

Like what, the Big 12? And while they're at it, I'd like Angelina Jolie tonight. 03-lmfao
Its going to be Arkansas Tech!!!!!!!

I don't think it does. Even if the Big 12 or ACC takes Cincy and some other AAC schools, the remaining AAC will still be better for UConn football than independence, which is clearly a dead-end for anyone but Notre Dame.

As much as I'd love to have UConn in the Big East, it ain't happening as long as UConn is committed to having a semblance of a "big time" football program. And all indications are they are 100% committed to that and will be in the future.

Maybe, just maybe, UConn could strong-arm a rump AAC into letting it put its basketball into the Big East while keeping other sports in the AAC. Maybe. That's the only chance, and it's probably extremely slim.

You have a legitimate source for this?

Believed in A-10 circles that Xavier is blocking Dayton. No idea if that's the case. If expansion happens and Dayton isn't taken, we will know for sure.

My guess is that it would be SLU and Wichita State. Or Dayton and SLU.

Regarding VCU, there's a question as to how much of VCU's success is 'program' and how much of it was 'Shaka'.

---

If it is WSU and SLU. That would be interesting. The A-10 might just do nothing to replace SLU.

They won a game this year with Wade for the first time in a few years. They're on their 4th coach in a row who as taken a team the tourney.

Hell, you could say Dayton has far more of a question with Miller- given w/o Miller they had 2 tourney wins from 1985-2010.
UCONN IS NOT AN OPTION! UCONN IS NOT AN OPTION!
THEY PLAY FB AND HAVE DREAMS OF LANDING IN THE P5,
They are a flight risk and are currently, and have been for several years campaigning to get into a P5 conference.
the BE , should they expand, needs someone that WANTS to be here for the long term not someone that will be constantly looking at the door trying to get out.

Park FB in the colonial and then UConn would be welcomed with open arms

Exactly.

I wouldn't even advocate the A-10 take Uconn. For the same reason.

Besides, if Uconn left for the Big East, where would they play football? Given that Uconn isn't dropping its' football down to FCS, Big East talk is a non-starter.

Right. When the Big EAst split, UConn playing football in the MAC was an option.* The MWC raiding "the Aresco League" or "Conference TBA" into oblivion was not impossible, becoming the 16-team coast-to-coast #6 football league that TAgilabue and Marinatto thought they were building.

Those ships have sailed and sunk. It's not happening. STop trying to make UConn back in the Big East happen.

* "Was an option" means that the MAC had an open spot to put UConn in as #14 to balance their divisions 7-7. Does not mean "was an option UConn considered in any serious way."
