First off, this is not about getting legally ticketed on a weekday afternoon for an expired meter (yes, we need a better parking solution for basketball, but rules are rules).

Many fans park in the 12th Street Parking Deck (across University from Lot 15A, connected to the pedestrian bridge) on game nights. But beginning January 18th, you must have a UAB ONE CARD to access the deck on foot. I guess this means walking around to a vehicle entrance/exit to access your car.

I'm a UAB alumnus and season ticket holder for 12 years. Parking for basketball just keeps getting worse. Just wait until they shut down Lot 15A/Ullman... how does UAB Admin expect to accommodate a 7pm weekday game with 4-5k in attendance? You won't have repeat attendance from families with kids or older adults when they realize that parking for a game means walking 4-6 blocks at night in the cold. My family and I will manage, but I'm struggling to see how 1st timers unfamiliar with UAB will become regulars with no clue where to park.
How about this, instead of people complaining about the lack of parking, why not park a few extra blocks away from Bartow and use the extra distance to get a little exercise.
I can't wait until people whine about the lack of close parking downtown, when our new stadium is built. Smh
Why don't we trash talk people that don't understand why they are fined for parking in an 80% empty parking deck at 7pm on a weekday for supporting their team.
All of these things may be minor in the grand scheme of things, but it all contributes to the poor game day experience UAB provides. We talk about wanting to cultivate a fanbase and get more people to the games, but we make it difficult to do that with these sorts of issues.
I normally park near the football building or the parking right across from it.

I'm all for exercise & health, but that's not the subject. We complain about poor crowds, but what's the game day experience like for 1st timers? I know where I can and can't park. UAB does next to nothing to inform basketball game attendees of where to park.

I'm not one to complain, but I'm fully aware of how much more difficult it's about to get for parking for weeknight games.

A little dialog about it, including a discussion about handling the parking meters around Bartow Arena, is constructive. It's an issue. Try being reasonable adults and think outside of yourself.
UAB has one of the best parking situations I've ever seen at a major university

Exactly! All of UABs home games are either weekend games, or weekday games that start after 6:00 pm. No tickets are issued for parking meters on the street on weekends or after 5:00 pm on weekdays. Only one game of this season was during the week that started before 5:00 pm and that was against SFA. For the benefit of game goers, the city parking authority should have worked in conjunction with UAB and "should not have issued tickets at parking meters" for this one event. Plain and simple, enough said about street parking. As for being ticket in parking lots or parking decks, that is an entirely different subject.

So, should the city waive parking tickets anytime there is a event where there will be lots of people looking for parking, or just events you attend?
Here's the current parking situation around Bartow Arena:
-Green lots are employee parking only
-Yellow lots are student parking only with valid parking pass weekdays until 6:00 PM
-Lot 15A is about to close permanently (new location of Collat School of Business)
-Deck 12S will be limited entry for UAB ONE Card holders only beginning Jan. 16, 2016

Or maybe they can use Uber to get someone to carry their ass straight up to the entry.
I park in 12s too. I always get to the games late and the lot where the collat building is being built is usually full. Coming in from 8th avenue it is the most obvious spot to park for bartow arena. All that I ask is that they make the same exception for the student card regarding the doors after 6 pm that they do in other instances.

So is this going to be the new replacement for the stadium picture? I would seriously mail you the $15 of it would prevent you from complaining about this again. You parked illegally and people did their jobs writing tickets. Is it a crappy situation? Absolutely. Did they take advantage of the situation? You bet. Is it the end of the world? No where near that bad. It's a $15 ticket you got for breaking a rule. It isn't on the person writing the tickets it's on the people parked at expired meters
Did anyone here attend the Auburn game? If so, how far away did you have to park? I had to walk a country mile to get to their arena. I was a visitor and didn't see any signs telling me where to park. UAB's parking situation isn't all that bad compared to some places.

We have this deck that's a city block from the arena. Why are we closing it to the general public at night for basketball games?
I understand this is a real concern. It's less convenient & Birmingham is one of the most danergous cities in the country for pedestrians. I wonder if they can work out something with the Blazer Express to have a few pick up points around campus for games. For games, folks may be able to park where UAB hospital employees park during the day (near where OCS was going to go). They definitely need to put out some sort of parking map to help visitors out.
question.. do most people buy their ticket online? or buy season tickets? why could they not have an option to buy (lets say $5.00) printable parking pass with the purchase of a ticket, that lets a person park in one of the lots... and leave the pass on their dashboard. those that buy ticket at the game would just have to rely on street parking

No. We have enough issues getting people to games. Charging for parking in a parking lot on campus would just be a nightmare. There's something like 15,000 parking spots on campus. How do you know if someone is a student going to a class vs. a fan going to the game?

That I don't get myself because I always park there
