New doors on Parking Deck 12 S ( the nearest large student deck) will be open on game nights and the deck will continue to be fully available for public basketball parking just as it always has. One Card readers will be off on these nights.

Good deal. Where did you see this?
Never mind that. We have two Hoover Blazers?

We talk about wanting to cultivate a fanbase and get more people to the games, but we make it difficult to do that with these sorts of issues.
Exactly! All of UABs home games are either weekend games, or weekday games that start after 6:00 pm. No tickets are issued for parking meters on the street on weekends or after 5:00 pm on weekdays. Only one game of this season was during the week that started before 5:00 pm and that was against SFA. For the benefit of game goers, the city parking authority should have worked in conjunction with UAB and "should not have issued tickets at parking meters" for this one event. Plain and simple, enough said about street parking. As for being ticket in parking lots or parking decks, that is an entirely different subject.

So, should the city waive parking tickets anytime there is a event where there will be lots of people looking for parking, or just events you attend?
Just for a 2:30 P.M. game when school is not in session.....DUH!

should shut the redlights off too and take the stop signs down too, so late UAB fans can get to the game faster?
Geez, Louise. Can we just pass the hat and see if we can scare up $15 for Gorilla's parking ticket so we can let it die?
(12-31-2015 05:13 PM)mixduptransistor Wrote: [ -> ]One thing also not mentioned that kind of sucks is that the $50 yearly alumni parking permit has been severely curtailed, and you have to basically park over by the WBHM radio station now if you're using that permit, where normally you could park in any lot 15.
Everyone in Jefferson County has a relative who graduated from UAB. Students were using their older brother's and or parents alumni pass and saving $50 per year. I get why they changed the rules. I used my sisters for my entire time at UAB. Also she probably owes a few parking tickets to UAB too, but since it was linked to an alumni they never tried to get the money from her.

The new guy needs to find a new name. No offense to him, but that's just confusing.
For a fee, the UABNAS will provide a parking tag to hang on your windshield mirror for parking on campus. Why can't a similar method be used for ticket holders for BB games when needed?

Then they should enforce the restrictions, not screw over people who didn't abuse the system. But when it comes to simple black and white rules UAB doesn't like a confrontation.

Because there's no issue with parking in a student lot during a game. It's the amount of parking available. Even then, a tag doesn't help you with metered street parking during a weekday. And UAB is going to open the street level doors to the deck for public use during games, so issue solved there, too.

You could even join the NAS as an associate member, meaning you aren't even an alumnus, and get the parking pass.
(12-31-2015 07:20 AM)UABslant Wrote: [ -> ]First off, this is not about getting legally ticketed on a weekday afternoon for an expired meter (yes, we need a better parking solution for basketball, but rules are rules).

Many fans park in the 12th Street Parking Deck (across University from Lot 15A, connected to the pedestrian bridge) on game nights. But beginning January 18th, you must have a UAB ONE CARD to access the deck on foot. I guess this means walking around to a vehicle entrance/exit to access your car.

I'm a UAB alumnus and season ticket holder for 12 years. Parking for basketball just keeps getting worse. Just wait until they shut down Lot 15A/Ullman... how does UAB Admin expect to accommodate a 7pm weekday game with 4-5k in attendance? You won't have repeat attendance from families with kids or older adults when they realize that parking for a game means walking 4-6 blocks at night in the cold. My family and I will manage, but I'm struggling to see how 1st timers unfamiliar with UAB will become regulars with no clue where to park.

just park at cooper green :)

Sadly I am a lifetime member of the NAS. They changed the hang tag last year so it is just about useless. See below change. So if you don't need those 2 lots during the day it's useless. Also, the NAS is now self perpeptual like the BOT and IMO full of people looking out for number one instead of UAB.

Quote:As of July 15, 2015, the Alumni Parking Pass can only be used Monday through Friday to park in Lots 15F and 15I between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. (campus parking map). If members try to use the Alumni Parking Pass to park in any other lots during these hours, you will be fined and your pass will be revoked. The Alumni Parking Pass can be used in ANY Lot 15 after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends.

ANYONE can park in any Lot 15 after 5 PM (Actually after 4 PM)!

I guess it's good that the parking deck will be an exception, but GREAT that it will be less restricted during basketball games? Also, does ANYONE know when we'll lose Lot 15A? It almost seems like it won't wreak havoc on 2015-16 games but it WILL cause trouble for 2016-17 games!
I saw the sign at the parking deck and was worried. I have parked in their after Jan 18th and the doors haven't been locked. Maybe they program it to stay open for home Basketball games?

I will ask some people.
Yeah, the parking deck is open to the public for basketball games.
