Last night worked out really well with Candle upstairs and Heacock on the field.
Wasn't he "Associate Head Coach" with Campbell? Hope UT can match that title and do an appropriate pay bump to keep him. Our D was much improved this season, and was perhaps the key to the bowl victory. And, I think he acquitted himself well on the sideline in the bowl game, allowing Candle to operate from the box. He could still move up from UT after another season--but I think Candle could benefit from Heacock's experience.

Maybe he's tired of moving.

I'm thinking a pay raise at UT and the possibility of another HC job in a season or so. It's going to take a few years to build ISU's defense. The pieces are in place for UT to be very good and springboard off that.

I think you're right. That would have to get old after a while.

Maybe he's tired of moving.

Someone told me, that his daughters are in high school now and that's why he is hesitant on moving again.
I was wondering what was going on with him being at the game. I thought he was already at Iowa State. You know it will come down to money if the gap is just too large to pass up.
I really believe, with the improvement in our "D" since Coach Heacock has taken over, there needs to be a big push to keep him on staff. Last night, the defense was outstanding!! When they're not on the field all game, they're real good. Next year would be his third year with his system, and great things would only continue.
I think last night showed what Heacock can do when allowed to run his defense. His defenses are attacking/aggressive. We saw that at times this year, but my opinion is that someone else wanted to play it safe at times. Would be nice if there was something UT could do to bump his salary a little bit. I know finances are difficult, and even though a small bump wouldn't come close to what he could make at I$U, maybe it would be enough to make him decide to stay.
Maybe he's also thinking that his D would give up a billion points in the Big 12, and he would be fired within a couple seasons. At UT, he probably won't get fired.
I suggest that MOB use the $200,000 ISU is paying for taking Campbell and give it to Heacock. The defense clearly inspired the offense.
Our D is positively at its best in years

I am sure winning that bowl game made it easier for Heacock to stay with us. My sense is there is a nice raise on the table for him after offering to be interim, coaching the bowl game, and the modest salary for our new head coach. ISU has more money then UT, but they arent loaded like some P5 schools so they have a breaking point as well.

I never looked at it that way. Talent just is not there at ISU for him to make a go of it. At least when he came here he had a good foundation to start with.

+1
Watching that game play out I felt that we were physically beating down the Temple offense. We were attacking, physical at the point of the tackle and really placing our will on them. That was one of the most dominating performances that I have seen in a long time. Heacock should be made to feel very much wanted. Agree that he had this defense ready to play and dominating.
He and Candle look like they could work together. I say make it happen.
Iowa St paid their DC almost $390K while UT paid Heacock $175K, FWIW.
I'm not as confident as others that Campbell,( nor Heacock's defense ) would be doomed to fail in the Big what-ever. I just don't think there's tons of separation between us and at least their lower half. If Campbell can get Iowa St into the middle, which I think he can, it is a good college town with great fan support that provides another option for 3-4 star recruits that he might be able to get into that 8-9 win season in a couple years with an occasional challenge for the top. And Iowa has gone pretty far with a roster full of Iowa players so the home base isn't exactly void of football talent. Missouri is ripe for a fall-off, making their recruiting grounds fertile for attack. If Campbell gets some good Texas recruiters on board, the BG guy would have been a great hire for him, they've got a chance to grab a few there. He's already shown he can get Ohio, Mich, Penn and Fl recruits to follow him to Ames.

I don't wish him badly and IMO, UT shouldn't either for no other reason than no one should like being at odds with people, certainly not people with whom they've been friends with good working relations BUT there's some explaining or apologizing that should happen. Relationships have to work both ways or they're just prostitution. If he felt UT, and by that I mean anyone in the community from U-Hall to the AD to the fan-base, screwed him over, I'd sure like to hear about it. I'm glad he found what he feels is a "moving on up" position but I'd like to hear why he departed in the manner he did.

Wounds shouldn't be left open.

Only one Iowa State coach has a winning record in the last 90 years. To think he's going to be able to recruit against the Texas schools or Oklahoma/West Virginia/OK State is a fantasy. Ditto for his Mount Union buddies trying to out-coach the elite B 12 coaches.

There were three 4 star recruits in Iowa this year and none of them are going to Iowa or Iowa State.
