Looking at the games that Memphis has played this year and going back to the Miami Bowl...There is a huge discrepancy in the salaries of the coaches that Fuente is matched-up against and defeating,, Bronco @ BYU is @ 2mil and Beaty @ KU is 1.5 mil.... I don't usually get caught up in $$$$ being made by sports figures, but to look @ what Fuente is doing here even comparing conference mates is astonishing.

Can someone explain this discrepancy? I understand Josh is eating a nice chunk of revenue. Is there possibly an agreement to pay him a more lucrative figure after certain upgrades or housecleaning is done?

I was doing this research before I made a post about; Why would Fuente go anywhere else with the level of success he's having here, as we should be able to be competent with ANY offers from more prestigious schools, and that there really are NO advantages to more prestige as margins of error are razor thin....but when I looked into comps of salaries, I was quite shocked and dismayed, as I stated, I don't get in to information about what coaches/players make, as it is NOT my concern...but again, I find these discrepancies very interesting based on performances.....

Compliment by Brother Bluto from another post:

"They had already shook hands because someone ran the clock down early. That feller deserves a raise IMO"

2.7
There are reasons why we've sucked for years as a whole and this one one of the reasons...will it change? I hope so but you can't have guys like pastner that's not that great making WAY WAY above what he's worth and having a real good up and coming football coach not nearly making as much...it'd be cool if we could pay both positions 3 mill each a year.

Fuente contract is full of incentives I think he can make much more than is listed on his contract if he hits them.

Base Salary 1.4 million
He put some money in the assistant coach's pool that's why
Josh is not eating any of the revenue.

We have the ability to pay Fuente whatever he wants. He chose the current salary for the current buyout amount.

If u say so.
We have NEVER threw serious money at a football coach ever.

Yep. Signed a 5yr deal last Dec that runs through '19 season. Only $500k buy-out.

I remember reading that as well...buyout didn't change when contact was renegotiated still 500k
So, in other words, we should be prepared for coach to leave? That he's not a "lifer?"
It is important to remember also that this is only Fuente's 4th year as a head coach and his first two years totaled only 7 wins, in fact, he is just now at .500 for his career. Last year was his first good year and they rewarded him with an increased salary and extension. With how things are looking this year I would expect another nice bump in salary.

I only point out the first part to put a little perspective on the situation, he came in with 0 head coaching experience, so I do not think he was expecting us to make him one of the highest paid coaches in the conference. Now, another 9+ win season this year and I imagine he will be toward the top of that list, and deservedly so.

I know so.

He was offered a LOT more money with a larger buyout, and he opted for the current contract with a smaller buyout.
It's an advantageous contract for him and his future. He's a star and will be coaching at a larger program. Just accept it and be thankful that we have him while we have him.

Thanks for the input guys! That's kinda my point for this post.....What are the so-called perks of a so-called more prestigious/larger program. The leash is considerably short. The only good - win is the national championship. The higher you go, 10 wins barely suffices & from what I understand, we can match $.....

There's NOT to many schools IF ANY that you can make this kinda dough, and the fanbase is ecstatic over a 3pt win @ BGSU....

We're loving the W, loving what our coach is doing right now! What situation out there is better & why?

If you are a Good coach with High level SEC talent you don't have to worry about beating BGSU by 3 points.

Which unfortunately means he is already gone when the offers come in and there is little to nothing we can do to keep him. If he were looking for security in this job he would have taken the higher contract with the higher buyout. His sights are elsewhere.
