I know EKU is not in the Sun Belt, but since we were interested (and probably still are) I wanted to provide the announcement to update Roy Kidd Stadium.

The new addition will replace the current visitor side bleachers.

The current home side still needs renovation, but this is a step in the right direction. The donation of $15M goes with the bonding authorization in the last KY state budget of $15M to update EKU athletic facilities.

Congrats. I've never been to your stadium so I have no idea of its condition. I'm just glad for y'all that the funding is coming together.
big time upgrade over the current stands. Traveled to EKU in 2012. Got there and thought "really?". Saw the attendance, and had another reason to loathe JMU's athletic admin.

Yeah, the current stands were good for when they were built in the 60s up through the 80s. That part will still need renovation...
Have any idea what the stadium will seat after the upgrade. Can't tell from the drawing that it will be significantly larger.

I remember eighteen thousand on one side and four on the visitor side. This doesn't answer the question but my guess is capacity will increase.
With Mo. st. And EKU making upgrades will JMU's admin see their window is closing, probably not.

Congrats on the upgrade!
Work has begun on the east side of Roy Kidd Stadium.

RKS east side being demolished and site prepped for new facility; hope to be completed by '16 season. All fans on Begley side for this year
Will this rennovation extend from goal line to goal line or to the back of the end zone ?

I haven't seen a true architectural drawing of the project yet. The original rendering was from goal line to goal line with new press boxes. Not sure if the coaching boxes will be there or not. It is also supposed to hold the offices for the staff, a restaurant, some classrooms and locker rooms.

It would be a benefit to both coaching staffs if the coaches boxes are there. No elevators from the current ones so they have to run down the ramps at half time to get to the locker rooms.
Well, looks like EKU is a little ahead of CCU, that works just as well IMO.
Do they need 30k seats for 4k fans? It will look like a ga st. Home game.
Congratulations on breaking ground - an exciting day for sure.

I read an article that said this project would boost capacity by 4,000. I haven't seen anything official - has there been anything released about how many seats this project will have and what the capacity of the stadium will be? Looking at the renderings it doesn't seem like it would be 4,000 in addition to what you previously had, but it is difficult to determine.
I applaud EKU. I have my suspicions that EKU is doing what the Belt told them they needed to do to get an invite. I would not be surprised at all to see EKU invited before next June 1
I would highly recommend a film deck on the side with only 4,000 seats. Can you imagine how pitiful that side would look on a TV broadcast shot from the side with 18,000 seats? Good luck on your stadium update and putting fans in the seats.

You posts make you look bitter.
Is there an increase to capacity, if so, why, when you average 6k to a game. Unless you are expecting something to happen that should increase attendance.
Exactly. They aren't doing these renovations without some assurance of a Sun Belt invite.
Congrats on the updates, Steve! I know that is exciting regardless of what happens with the divisions.
