According to the EKU athletics website, construction will begin before the 2016 season so it looks like it will be soon, but not now. Here's a link to the description with external rendition referenced by the athletics facilities page.

The description indicates a replacement; not an expansion, but it looks like it will definitely be a very nice improvement that EKU fans can be very proud of.

EKU also made an improvement to the Roy Kidd Stadium and Alumni Coliseum video boards in 2013. The football stadium video board looks like a nice size of 15' x 26'.

In addition to the Roy Kidd Stadium improvemnt, the tennis courts, baseball field, softball field are also receiving upgrades (lights, etc.) My understanding is that those upgrades are included in the $15 million capital improvement for the University.

As an outsider looking in, it looks like there are some very good things going on at EKU right now. I bet it is an exciting time to be a Colonels fan.

I think the one at maverick stadium is larger and uta does not even have a football team. eku may want to go larger.

The work being done now is only for the east side. They are still working on plans to eventually replace the west side. It too will be multipurpose as the current side is today. Like I said previously, once we see final renderings someone from the EKU side will post them here.

any upgrade/expansion is a good thing. the other facilities there seem pretty nice.

(06-10-2015 11:30 AM)LexColonel Wrote: [ -> ]No one has seen a final rendering. A presentation was made, I think in May, to SUN Belt officials, not only of the athletic plans, but also the over all university. I did not see it, but was told the presentation was impressive and the plans for EKU in the coming years is awesome.
The construction has not begun, but the dismantling of the visitor side bleachers (ugh) is underway. That has to be done first. After the new side is built, the old concrete home side will be torn down and a new side built there. Honestly, no one, except those that need to know, know what the final product will look like. I am assuming, that last year, too much information was released about plans to apply for a FBS conference and we got tons of flack for moving too fast, wanting too much too soon, not being ready, blah, blah, blah! So guess the EKU Administration is playing it a little close to the vest now. As for the 15 million gift, no one expects that is enough to get the job done, we all know that as does the EKU powers that be.

If you guys are going to be sitting on only one side for the next couple years, I'm going to say we will see no increase in attendance. 04-chairshot that's going to hurt for those of us that like to watch those numbers.
Yeah, well as they say it is what it is. Tearing down the old structure that everyone hates is part of the renovation. There is no other way to do this. Build entirely new stadium? Would be nice, but that's not the route they are going. Improving what we have just like...JSU, WKU, MTSU, App State...these are the ones I know of and the ones I have been to all before renovations and a few after.
Any idea what capacity the EKU admin is shooting for once all renovations are made?
I do not know what the seating capacity will be once the two sides are finished. There is a grassy "hill" in one end zone, the two structures could be extended there too and connect two sides. (Of course it's always been "The Hill" where a lot of students like to sit.)
I can't imagine the stadium would hold any less than it always has, which is approximately 21,000 more or less. Would make no sense to make a smaller capacity. Make no mistake this will be done right. They aren't spending money, building athletically and academically to do a half azzzzzzed job.

I'm sure you would like us to think you came up with that on your own " not fbs ish". I think someone beat you to the punch there man, I didn't miss that it was meant as a dig at EKU...but aren't you/Jax State FCS? Funny, the pot calling the kettle black (in case you don't " get it", your team is FCS as we are at present time, so you don't spit on your own kitchen floor.....) and I don't want to get in a pissing contest with you, so let's not start comparing EKU to Jax State and vice versa. Won't do either of us any good, as I think EKU can match Jax tit for tat.
I thought i could get a rise out of someone. Im just yanking your chain. Are you the only colonel on here i thought id get a better response.
Is there not a better rendition of what is to come? Im actually happy with the improvments others have ,made for the ovc. After all we may all be here a while.

Slim, I've mainly ignored most of your posts when it comes to EKU because you mainly try to jerk someone's chain.

JSU is a good candidate to move up. Problem for you is USA and Troy are already in the conference and sounds like from other posts that many are not looking to add a third team from Alabama.
Ive heard all that before, somewhere.
Ill admit i do sometimes yank a chain or two. But only when im bored and mostly eku and atlanta trojan. Speaking of which he overdue.
wheres a good troy st. Thread?
Heard tonight that the new RK Stadium will be a horseshoe/bowl. That the new stadium plans look very good. Those that have seen the plans are very enthusiastic regarding the direction they are going with the stadium. There will be growing pains and inconvenience as the two sides are torn down and the new stadium seating takes the place of the old. The old bleacher side is almost demolished. The home side will eventually be where the large concrete structure now sits. Sorry, did not think to ask seating capacity, old Makers Mark got us all a little side tracked.

Spent the weekend in Richmond looking after an ailing father and noticed that the visitor's side stands are already down. There was a small crew there working on the by-pass side endzone turf; not much else going on. Based on the released graphical representation of the new visitors side building, it's pretty easy to envision a bowl-shaped final product. I'm wondering if they'll build the end-zone side tall enough to block the view from the Fitness & Wellness Center next to the Moberly Bldg. Is the FWC used as a football operations center? Also wondering why the need to tear down the Begley Bldg. (home side). Irrespective of age that side still looks very good and seats what - 18,000 plus? Original design was ahead of its time.

Besides the aesthetic appeal of building what will essentially be a new stadium, the Begley Building inside is in pretty bad shape, as are parts of the upper deck of RKS.

From what I heard at the game I went to this past season, there are some mold issues in Begley as well.

Both have long established programs in great recruiting areas and in untapped markets for the SB. I could deal with JSU too but EKU, CCU and MoSt no. We seem to be overlooking the fact that MoSt and EKU are not competitive in football and attendance is terrible. Yes MoSt has decent baseball and basketball but football drives boat. EKU has well they are renovating their stadium. CCU has decent football and great baseball.

We just renovated our stadium and aren't done yet. We had another shitastic year and still averaged 4K more than EKU. But, whatever floats your boat.
The sbc doesnt want a good football team or a team with great attendance. If they did they would already added jax st.
