I don't think Harsin or Anderson were household names. Malzahn certainly was.

Harsin was OC at Texas

Anderson was OC at UNC

That's somewhat more known than any FCS coach who may pop up on the GA Southern search.

Exactly what point are you trying to make? Congrats, your prior coaches we're marginally "higher profile" than the coaches we're speculating as being candidates.

I'd give you a medal if I could

It only matters if splash hire is your goal.

Brian Van Gorder was well known. What's your point?

Who cares, I could not name the OC at UNC or Texas right now neither could the vast majority of football fans. I'll take a FCS coach like Fritz and Chadwell that turned multiple losing programs around and had them competing for NC's by year three over a P5 OC or DC who is probably coaching under great HC with top talent. They might be good but does it really matter who the OC under Malzhan is or who the DC is under guys like Saban who will forget more about defense than most will ever learn?

A proven HC no matter at what level that has probably been a OC or DC already is less of a risk then thinking the P5 label somehow transfers greatness to the next job.

Erk was never a head coach before GS. He was assistants or coordinators all the way up to you guys.

It was a different time to say the least and this is no longer a I-AA start up job at small college. Erk's job was going to be his last as well and he is the one that let the AD know he would be interested in the job if a program was started not the other way around. He also let this young coach talk him in to running that gimmicky option offense as well, it worked out. Also if you knew anything about Erk he was more than a well known name hire. And please Erk may have been the DC at uga but he was more like the defensive head coach and Dooley did everything else. Those uga teams do not win squat without Erk, and they didnt after he left and still haven't.
While I understand the logic of looking for a hire with a high-octane offensive background, personally I'd be more interested in a candidate who has proven he knows how to put together and manage a complete staff, knows how to coach the kids and is respected by them, and most importantly, knows how to win consistently.

Chadwell fits most of that description he turned to losing programs into NC contenders in three years and as far as character goes well....

I didn't say he was just a well known name hire, but thanks again for assuming what I do and don't know about your program's history.... but the argument above was whether or not y'all should get a name. Erk had one. That was my point. Before everyone takes blind to an established name as coordinator because of BVG, you just have to find the right guy.

And frankly, nobody ever knows the answer to whether or not you found the right guy before it is confirmed on the field. Until then, I wouldn't scratch off anyone from the list.
Houston Nutt rumors? Only 3 years older than Fritz.
One thing I'm surprised hasn't been mentioned about Pry (unless I missed it)…he was the defensive coordinator for the Cajuns from 2003 to 2006. Any Cajun fans have an opinion of the defense in those years?

I think he could be a good candidate and is a good defensive coach, but some of our fans think Jack Curtis (our lame duck DC) is a bum and Pry would make us into some fearsome defense are in for a rough reality check come next season.

I have no care about what it is you are trying to relate or what your point is or who you prefer.

I only jumped in to correct you on one specific detail...that Harsin was well-known and was thought of as probably too high profile for A-State to get by most.

That's one of the concerns I've had with Chadwell and especially Mike Houston. Their respective staffs are light on D1 experience (especially Houston's). It gives me some concern about the contacts they have in the coaching community to bring in guys with the experience needed.

I would also add another condition that they know how to recruit, as well as understand how to apply what they want to do to the personnel they have instead of trying to fit a square peg in a round hole.

The point was simple. I thought it was clear.

We hired guys who'd been known around FBS coaching circles previously.

It was simply a comparison between the searches.

Also another interesting comparison. During each of our hires, the new guy was named by now.

BVG had all the contacts in the world and tried to fit a square peg in a round hole. Both of the other coach's offenses are suited to what we have now, although more for the spread than old flexbone. It is a legit concern about getting good coordinators but DIV FBS OC and DC jobs way more easier to fill than FCS ones. I doubt it will be Hatcher 2.0 and sticking with friends and loose family. TK is not going to hire any coach without having a good idea on who the coordinators are and I doubt he is going to let just be a buddy with little qualifications.
2 years ago when we hired Fritz it took 3 weeks. Our AD said 2 years ago he spoke to over 20 candidates, narrowed it down to 4 had them come to Statesboro for interviews then chose 1. He seems to be very methodical and thorough.

I hope this time it is faster than that. We are only on Day 5 right now
He's trolling you... no need to defend yourself.

He was very good, some of the best cajum defenses we've had, he got thrown under the bus by a head coach who needed to make a change. Ricky bustle was the offensive coach and basically the coordinator. The players loved Brent Pry and played their asses off for him. For selfish reasons I hope yall don't hire him.
Nightmare Scenario:

It's taking so long because TK is interviewing for other AD jobs rather than doing a full out search for a head FB coach, kind of like the administrative equivalent of the Georgia State game.
