If for some crazy reason that doesn't happen people would pay good money to get your immediate reaction on youtube.

No need for YouTube. If you are within a 50 mile radius of va beach you will probably be in range to get the blowback of a megaton dropped F bomb.
Classic, I'm probably in the blast zone.
Even giving Blaine one more year would be too damaging to the program's image. It's already taken enough of a hit as it is.

It could be a good way to recover some of money that was stole from us with season tickets by putting this product out there this season.

Unless ODU hacked your account they didn't "steal" your money or anybody else's. You made a choice to purchase season tickets, nobody forced you. Those who are dissatisfied with the results have every right to be frustrated, or upset, etc., but please accept the responsibility in the matter for having made that choice. Buying tickets to any sport event guarantees only that the event will take place, nothing more. I'm sure there are many who will choose not to renew if BT is retained.

That thought struck me last night after the latest loss. How much damage is being done to our reputation and how many years will it take to recover any level of respect? Towson had the nation's longest losing streak last year and are now winning games, but the stigma of that losing streak will be with them for a long time...

That depends on what (who) we do. The women's program is recovering nicely.
Any GOOD coach would get this team to play 500 level BB. We just don't have a good coach and it shows. With our facilities and fan base the next coach will get ODU in the NCAA tourney is a few short years - just like all the previous coaches have done. We need a innovative young coach that can get us in and make a run in the tourney.

Are you kidding me? Everyone knows that. I was just playing. Sorry to have wasted 10 minutes of your life writing that essay.

I'm not writing this post to defend BT. I have stated I believe ODU and BT should part ways after this season. I do think it's incorrect to say BT is not a good coach. I believe it would be more accurate to say BT is not coaching well, especially in terms of recruiting.

I feel like some fans believe that ODU's NCAA record is better than the facts bear out. The Monarch's overall NCAA record is 3-11. We went to the tournament three times under Paul Webb (0-3,) once under Tom Young (1-1,) once with Oliver Purnell (0-1,) two times with Jeff Capel (1-2,) and four times under Blaine Taylor (1-4.)

Frankly, since winning the D-II Championship we have yet to hire a coach that has taken us to where we aspire. If Blaine Taylor departs after this season and fails to become a D-I head coach elsewhere he will be the fourth of five ODU head coaches who list us as their final employer. I really want this trend to stop. Like NBM, I would like Wood Selig to hire a younger head coach who is a better match for the goals which we want to achieve (national relevance, deep NCAA runs.) I don't care if we get a good one and he moves on, I would rather we be viewed as a stepping stone than an afterthought.
Yeah but you are leaving some facts out painted.

None of those other coaches had the Ted constant center to sell. None of those other coaches has football and a vibrant campus life to sell. We were a complete and total commuter school.

The Caa was a much much weaker league under capel and purnell than it was the past few years. There was also no media contract and those coaches weren't paid NEARLY what Blaine is being paid now. Blaine also has the Ted while they had the crappy, non renovated scope to sell.

And Blaine has only done marginally better than any of them.

It's time for him to go and us to give someone else a try to take advantage of all we have to offer and sell it hard!!

Quite true, BT has enjoyed a sizeable advantage over past coaches with the Ted, etc. I wasn't really trying to defend BT by comparison. Just pointing out that we have yet to hire a D-I coach (I'll leave Webb out as he was hired as D-II and did win a championship) that has gotten us where we want to be. It has happened at other schools with lesser circumstances. Just look 100 miles west to what Dick Tarant and now Chris Mooney have done for the Spiders. I am ready for our basketball program to start aiming high. With the Ted, a new practice facility about to break ground, and a move to CUSA, there really is no reason ODU can't get to where we want to be in the basketball world.
Painted Blue - I think everyone knows our NCAA history, thats one thing BT was brought in to fix. I stick by what I said. Whether you want to call it not coaching well right now or bad coaching, same thing, any good coach with this talent level could coach the current monarch team up around 500, not 2-15. I could live with 7 or 8 wins right now but not 2-15.

I don't believe much damage has been done yet. In 2010, UConn was 18-16, UNC was 20-17, and UCLA was 14-18. Most people think those programs never have a bad year.

I agree. I think we are still known as having a good basketball team. I think if we can get to .500 next year we can save the ship. It won't be easy, but it is doable with an open mind working with what we have.

First of all, painted blue nailed something that I am always careful about saying. Look at the people gushing about the QB for the SF 49'ers now. Everyone is talking about how great he is. It is dangerous to call him great. He has PLAYED great. But there is a big difference between great players and players that have played great.

So I do believe there is a difference in a coach that is not good and a coach that is not coaching well.

I think Taylor is a good coach, but I think his defense first style is very difficult for young players, or players seeing it for the first time. I think we are suffering right now from the combination of Taylor's style and youthful players. It's a bad mix and one that we have not had to deal with for a long time. But with the loss of Hicks, Key, and Pimentel, the lack of development of Wright and Larson, AND the graduation of 8 seniors over the last two years, we are in a very bad position and the record shows it.

I believe this is what our problem is right now. Now where to place this blame and to what degree will vary widely between fans.
Somatics. BT has never been a very good on your feet thinking game day coach.
