...well then. Hopefully the New Hampshire game cleared out any remaining cobwebs in the game plan. Time to line up against the Spiders.

I'm going to say 42-24. Heinicke stays full-throttle and rattles the Richmond secondary. Repeatedly.
Did their QB from last year graduate?

Yes, Aaron Corp graduated last year.

Yes. Corp is gone.
Laub doesnt sound like a slouch. We can't afford to keep having these shoot outs. Lets hope the D got all the kinks out by the end of the 3rd tonight and is ready to roll.
Richmond is 3-1. Their wins are against teams that are a combined 1-11. That 1 win is VMI over D2 Chowan.

04-cheers
Arachnophobia will be no no issue. ODU wins 56-7
It's going to be hard for Heinicke to live up to the NH game performance, but I think he's going to have a solid game all the same. A couple touchdown passes, a few scrambles for extra yardage, and another verse in this chapter of the Heinicke legend.
Id like to see us work the running game into the mix a little more. Keep the other teams d's honest and show we aren't 1 dimensional. Granted its a huge dimension.
If I don't see massive improvements from the defense I am going to be very upset.

We have speed.......we just apparently have no strength at all. Way to many weak tackles, arm tackles and guys just flat out getting run over.

UNH was a very good team and a lot of the CAA idiots (well mainly just JMU fans) aren't giving them their due as a tough offensive football team, but part of that was our piss poor tackling and poor defensive playcalling.

Hopefully it was just one bad game from Dee and not symptomatic or a preview of more struggles to come. We have defensive weapons, we need to figure out how to use them effectively!!!

61 points is absolutely unacceptable. The GSU game cost Rondeau his job. If Dee can't figure out how to play better defense as the year progresses, we will need to find another D Coordinator yet again.

Sorry, but with Heinicke and company and with our impending move up to FBS, THIS IS OUR YEAR......so we need to get it done and not be afraid to pull the trigger if our D coordinator continues to let the team down.

We can't count on scoring 64 every single game. I was worried before the season even began that Dee might not be a very good choice and I said as much when he floated the idea of using 2 defensive lineman out there before the season. I said that was complete insanity and if he even considers that he should be fired immediately.

Of course I was attacked by our huge football experts on this board that "know it all", but right now, I'm very afraid I might have been right all along about Dee. He won state titles at Phoebus with extremely superior talent, I'm not entirely sure how much of it was gameplanning, scheming and play calling.

We will see how well he shores things up this week because Richmond, while decent, should not crack 30 points against us without Corp. Any more than that and we may need to honestly consider thinking about making a mid season change to "go all in" and try and win the national championship THIS YEAR.

We certainly have the offense, there is no denying that. But we have to have some semblance of defense and that UNH game has given me ZERO confidence in Coach Dee.

Just the honest truth folks.
Unfortunately, I think it's going to take another loss to open peoples eyes. As long as TH plays us through the poor defense and all the penalties and comes out with a win, most are satisfied. When it costs us a victory, that's when something will be done (like last year after the GSU game). I'm not from the area, and don't know a lot about Bill Dee, but I do know weak tackling when I see it. This is supposed to be a simple defense, being out of position and missing assignments are not acceptable.
I disagree. Players need to be accountable. Dee can't play for them. If they continue to miss assignments, breakdown their gap responsibilities, allow defenders to get behind them because they're cheating on the run, take stupid pass interference penalties because they can't turn their heads around to play the ball, muff punts, etc. then the staff needs to reevaluate who plays, and ultimately, who remains on scholarship.

If your job is to protect gap X, then that's where you need to be - I don't care what direction the play is going. Same if your job is to protect the back end of the field - don't get sucked up in play action! Too many guys are failing in their assignments and it creates an atmosphere of distrust. If I don't think my teammate will execute his assignment properly, I'm going to compensate, which puts my assignment at risk....and on and on. It's high time we started putting the heat in these players. It's got nothing to do with talent. Talent & $0.25 will buy you some bubble-gum at this level. Execution wins games & makes plays. I've seen very little of that for the last 1.5 years - that's on the players!
Obviously the kids can do it. Look at the 4th quarter stops. Was that fatigue on UNH's part? Well then kudos to our conditioning.
If you are associated with ODU's defense, you had a very bad day on Saturday. Plenty of blame to go around.
Lots to agree with from Razor's post, and certainly hope that this was an isolated game of poor defensive execution - and it was REALLY poor. Special Teams were not particularly special, either.

We'll see soon, as UR is better than last year, and Laub (while not Corp) is a viable QB that can make plays.
I was reading USA Today this morning and I stumbled upon something interesting in the sports section. The Richmond Spiders were listed at #10 in the paper's list of "Teams with something to prove." The text below portrayed us as something of an offensive juggernaut, and that if the Richmond defense could hold us to "anything below 40" then they "deserved a parade." There was also another statement about Heinicke and his record. It's cool to see that this game has its own place on the national radar, however small.

We put up 45 at least, and no parade for the Spiders. Richmond is a silly place.
I originally said Richmond would score 7. OK I might be light there. But even so it just doesn't matter. They can't score enough to stay with us. I will update my projection to say ODU 56-24.
Interesting write-up of the game from our friends over at TickNation
