You still need 30k seats in FBS

You are wrong, but it is worth mentioning that Georgia Southern has short term plans to double deck the stadium on one side which will bring the seated capacity in the mid 20's and a deck on the other side will bring it above 30K seats.

Yes, we are about to break ground on a $15 million 50k square foot end zone facility that will feature a huge weight room, coaches' offices, hall of fame and lounge for players. Once that is done, the stadium expansion will begin.

LOL! I thought everyone knew this. If you dont have 30k seats you had better get there quick. Remember, SBC is chasing CUSA/MWC who is chasing BEast. Why do you think ODU has plans to go to 40k? But Bravo Gentlemen in a valiant attempt at laundry.

20k attendance in a 25k stadium is better than 8k attendance in a 75k rented facility which is what Ga State was experiencing at the end of last year after total fan apathy set in after the loss to NAIA St Francis occured at home. St francis was rated around 400 in RPI ratings that included FBS FCS Div II Div III and NAIA. Lets not forget this is a new program when excitement should be at its peak. Things are going to get real nasty in year three when the newness has worn off and you are 0-8 in the CAA.

You gotta love the excuses that were being thrown out about the poor attendance. Check out the sorrority rush "reason" in the AJC link: http://blogs.ajc.com/georgia-state-sport...more-fans/

Lets hope this year you do a better job of planning your football games around sorrority rush so that some students will actually show up. lol

Ga State doesnt even have a stadium. In the best of circumstances, your guys will be playing in a stadium that is more than 50% empty for a decade. What good is a 30,000 seat or 75,000 seat stadium, if there are 10,000 or 40,000 empty seats? How does that increase your television value?

Stadium expansion would be in the plans for most any FCS move-up, but 30K is not a prerequisite for an invite. Texas State is set to join the WAC in 2012 and they play in a 16K seat stadium with plans for future expansion. App has plans to expand as well but it is unlikely to happen before an FBS move and the extra revenue that comes with it. Not to say that playing in the Georgia Dome is not an asset in your attempt to move up but our attendance is strong enough that I highly doubt we will be held back by playing in a 23K seat stadium that is over capacity every week.

You misunderstand. I am not pimping the GA Dome. Just being realistic. If you want to catch CUSA/MWC how can you have lesser criteria? Is Texas State a real candidate? I think that UTSA is. Have not heard serious consideration for Texas State in either SBC or the Merger

My favorite is the marquee win over Clark Atlanta.

They did finish the season strong with a tight win over the Campbell spitting Camels. That certainly took the sting off of the loss to NAIA St Francis and West Alabama. We put up more yards and almost as many points on Alabama than they put on West Alabama. I actually did not know there was even a West Alabama.

I didn't think you were pimping the GA Dome but 'catching' C-USA or any other conference is not really the point. Your original post said that you need to have a 30K seat stadium to be FBS and Texas State is just the most recent example of an FCS program that moved up with a much smaller capacity than that.

I could be wrong, but I'd guess that several of the current Sun Belt members had a stadium smaller than 30K prior to joining.
Is there a 1-aa expansion/realignment "bored" ?

Catching The Alliance is most certainly the point. Its a different world from 12 years ago or even 2 years ago. It is about a prospective TV contract now more than ever. Facilities is the first thing that comes up after market now. I am not making that up.

Yeah buddy, we're here to expose you. It had nothing to do with the 30,000 seat rule that you just made up as you went along to slight App, or the swipe at a school with 6 National Championships, which incidentally is only 3 short of matching Ga State's entire win total.

Post BS, and we'll call you out.

I agree, facilities are important and I am proud of ours. I just do not think that having a 23K stadium that is over capacity makes a team/conference any less marketable than having a 30K stadium just under capacity, but we can agree to disagree.

Nothing to agree upon. Its not my opinion, its what people are saying is the criteria.

Football Bowl Subdivision Requirements - NCAA.org

1) Sponsor 16 varsity sports
2) Play 60% of your games against FBS opponents
3) Average 15K attendance over a 2-year rolling period
4) Provide 90% of max allowable football grants over rolling 2-year period
5) Minimum of 200 athletic grants or $4M spent on them

Stadium size could certainly work to a program's advantage, but it is not a criteria for FBS membership. App easily meets all NCAA criteria.
Where are you getting this criteria Panama??? UAb is talking OCS here in Birmingham, and they are thinking 27,000 seats. And they are a almighty CUSA team.
FIU and WKU both currently seat less than 24,000.
