Correct; it's a really young program (first game was in 2009) and their goal is to be in FBS by 2013. They're an FCS Independent in 2011.

Southern Alabama is not in the bowl division, right?
South Alabama Jaguars are not yet if FBS. They will join the Sun Belt Conference in 2013. The program is undefeated so far in its 2 years of existence and they had a higher home attendance average than us last year.
According to Edgytim, Mario Jones has received offers from both UT and BG and has told the coaches that he is solid to NIU. Says that he is not even going to talk with other coaches. Nice to see him staying strong with us.
Local/Regional uncommitted talent that NIU should be offering:

Not much new steam on the NIU recruiting trail these days...
Most HS kids have temporarily shelved their recruiting because the season is getting going. Some kids without offers or offers they want, make a tape of their first 3 or 4 games and resend it to the schools with whom they are on the bubble.
Darryl Goldsmith to WMU.
We just offered Daron Brown 6'5" 315 lbs. OT/OG from Mich.
Robert Gregory QB from Simeon to Arkansas. Chose them over NIU, Illinois, Toledo, and Eastern Michigan?

According to Rivals, Scout, and ESPN, NIU did not offer Gregory. Is their another recruiting site/source that I am unaware of?

Quote:Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Toledo and Northern Illinois were among the other schools that showed serious interest in Gregory, but the other finalist besides Arkansas was Eastern Michigan.

To anyone who might have been surprised by that, Gregory had this message: “It’s not about the name of the school. It’s where you feel comfortable playing. You don’t choose a school because of its name; it’s because of how it fits you.”

"Showing interest" and a firm offer are quite different. I will monitor the recruiting sites for updates or confirmation.
Every year we sign a number of players that NO public source had a clue were even offered. Re: Gregory, just because its not reported does not mean he was not offered. I would be willing to book that we have verbals right now whom we are not even aware are being recruited by the Huskies.
Sam Pearce to Air Force.

Huskies need a TE in this class and so far none offered have said Yes
Watched Devin Church and Birmingham Mi. Brother Rice play Toledo St. Francis at the Glass Bowl last night. Lets hope that Church continues to have the same success for NIU at UT as he did yesterday. He ran for 128 yards on 11 carries and 1 TD.

While it's hard to tell if he is all of 5"8" I would doubt it. He is strong and a couple times carried defenders for extra yards. Appeared more jitterbuggy (making guys miss) than pure speed, not that he lacks speed. Looks to have good hands. If Ford and Church play RB we should have a decent thunder and lightening combo.
Offer out to Conor Sabolic TE 6'5" 225 lbs. from Fla.
GET ME A JC DT & OLINEMAN, 2012 could be tough in the pits.
Barrington Morris to Minn.
Billy Reed from Lockport is still looking at NIU even though we haven't offered and according to what he said to EdgyTim, NIU may not offer any receivers this year. Chance to load on linemen and linebackers. Reed apparently is very fast (4.4ish) and plays QB for Lockport.
