why do we insist on sitting our freshman (i am not talking about taking the shirts off now, but to go into this year admitting that Morris was the second ....and oly...other qb that we have is befuddling to me)

surely this coaching staff knew nickleson was crap (otherwise he would have been in much sooner for horvath)

obviously a walkon morris was not the teams future qb....

so

why not have had a freshman on the sidelines to get some experience and maybe just maybe shine coming off the bench. It happens a lot...

for those of you that will argue that our freshman would not be able to adjust to the 1a game or not pick up our offense fast enough, here is a list

Davis
WIlly
Raudebaugh
sheehan
LeFevour
Schmitt
Hiller
Bower
Opelt

all are MAC qbs this year who saw extensive if not starting action as freshman and are leading teams that are better than us.

(Even the other two--Eddleman and DiMichele were sophomores when they took over.)

TO go into this year knowing that we had crap for qbs and not willing to try out a freshman just irritates the hell out of me.

And that is a coaches decision.
Joe is saving them
This game has nothing to do with Nicholson. The entire team gave up. I suppose we should blame Nicholson for our team giving up 70 points.
i didnt say it was, but it would have been nice to see someone other that Morris come in to get experience....

The qb play all season has been a weakness....why would we settle with crap and crap-in-a-bag as our only two options when we had other choices...

if the freshman are truly worse than these two....then there is no hope.

I don't know that the freshman were worse, but not as prepared may be a better term.

They just weren't ready. Why not give them a full year of being ready.

03-lmfao Crap and Crap in a bag cracked me up!

I think next year it's the Blalock show. If Morris ever sees the field past this season i'm going to be shocked.
There's a difference between a true freshman and a redshirt freshman. Ours are true freshman. Some you named were redshirt freshman when they played like LeFevour. Hiller was a true freshman, but he was throwing to Jennings and Scheffler, who are both playing in the NFL. This team doesn't have a receiver or TE that will play at the next level. If you are listing Bower from Ohio, he did not play as a FR. He transfered from U of I. He is a SR this year.

For those of you lameting about LeFevour, he didn't even start the season last year as CMU's QB. It was an injury to another redshirt Fr, Brunner in the Boston College game last year that moved LeFevour into the starting role. He seized the opportunity.

This couldnt illustrate my point better....a freshman ready to come in after an injury i think is a better answer that Morris...who will NEVER be the answer.

You assume our QBs WERE ready. Who knows if they were?

Yelling for these QBs now is doing nothing but playing the what if game, a game you yourself said you will not play.
so why are NIU qb "not ready" when so many in our conference are?

That is what I want to know..

Do we not get them ready ....or do we not recruit good qbs?

either way, we got a problem

Or maybe we didn't want to burn a redshirt on a year that was lost?

Having a Junior Captian as your QB isn't a bad plan. Then morris as the backup if Dan isn't out for an extended period isn't a bad plan. What is happening now is that Dan was hurt AFTER the season was out of hand, don't waste a redshirt on that.

Who knows if they are the better QBs. The point is that they probably are, but don't waste them this year.

And if you are saying after 6 weeks of pratice they would be ready to play Vs. iowa so they should have been #2 i'm going to have say you are crazy.

I think we have a problem recruiting good ones because we don't play the style of offense most QB's want to play in.

I think we have 3 good ones now. So to say we can't recruit them may not be correct. Our O is taylored to our QBs. Who when we have good ones they leave. Either they puss out, or do something stuipd to be forced out.

The point is, Andre Brown, Chris Carr, and Billy Lowe were all running qbs (well brown before he ate his way out of that) who had issues and had to leave. But they were the type of QBs you would love to have back there.

I'm calling it now ... Nov. 24, 2008, when we are off to the MAC Title game in Detroit, the 2008 season will offically be titled "The Blalock Show" 03-lmfao

But seriously, I'm excited to have A) a 1,000 yard rusher (Anderson) B) An experienced O-Line that exceeded ALL OF OUR expectations in 2007 and really has done an amazing job and C) A playmaker @ QB that can make plays with his legs (Blalock) in 2008

+100,000
Billy Lowe.
We just gave up 70 points and 800+ yards to a bad team. I'm not sure qb is our biggest problem right now. This team wouldn't win with Johnny Unitas at QB.

It's not the Rocket Offense that was bad.UT was averaging about 404 yds per game and about 30 points. It's the Defense that was bad.The Rockets are missing 4 starters on Defense(2 DE's and 2 DB's) and 2 on Offense(2 OL).Last year the Rockets were without the starting QB and had 11 Linemen on crutches.Rocket fans know about injuries.
Injuries suck.

The game isn't faulted to Dan. However, there was a play that he threw up a pass to Simon I think, who was covered by FIVE TOLEDO ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dan isn't the main problem, but he definitely isn't the solution.

Again LeFevour was a REDSHIRT Freshman. Ours are true freshmen. That is a big difference. It's an added year learning the playbook and experience from practicing.

True, but Toledo is a bad team and it is disgusting and disgraceful to give up 70 points and 800+ yards to anybody.

Yes, we need a new QB. But an even bigger need is a new defense. Injuries are a big part of it but I think now it is at least 50% attitude. They have resigned. They have no fight left.
