UMass 60
Temple 34

I sure can't wait for those four basketball games a year against Temple.

What in the hell was Chryst thinking? 01-wingedeagle

Six years now with only one team in the tournament and it doesn't look like anyone will even merit consideration for an at-large bid this year.

I think it's time for a new commissioner.
temple's not coming in a basketball member so this result really doesn't have anything to do with us. What's sad, though, is that their football team IS coming in and it's way worse than its basketball team! yikes!
Yes it does.

If their basketball team sucks, then they add even less to the MAC than the little we already thought.

wrong. our football teams were whored out for this crap.
no, i disagree. during football season, they are the MAC's embarrassment. after that, they are the A-10's problem. ;-)
Get serious--Temple is #45, higher than any MAC team. Their program has more national success in the last 20 years than nay school in our conference, even KSU. Getting them and WKU in the MAC for basketball would be a coup were it to happen.
Who cares what their RPI is? It's over-inflated because of all the highly-ranked teams they've lost to. They're 9-7 this year.

Imagine if that was Kent State beating Temple instead of UMass.
Would ANYONE outside of NE Ohio take a look at that and say, "Hey look, Kent State beat Temple! Wow!" Let me answer that for you. No. No one would care.

The only thing Temple is known for these days is the goon game and Chaney threatening to kill John Calipari.
You would have to have a pretty vivid imagination to dream up Kent knocking off Temple. Shouldn't they scout Delaware St better? Hey, its a terrible game vs a conference rival. I've seen TU play terrible games and end up in the Sweet 16. Check back, later Zip.
I got this thread off the NIU board. It is interesting and very ironic. Someone at Temple must be an artist when it comes to negotiations. Unfortunately, it sounds like the MAC people don't quite understand the concept. Either way, here is the thread.

One man's (Big East) trash is another man's (MAC) treasure.
If you don't think Temple hoops would be a huge boon for the MAC your an idiot. Pepole let their bittness over the football cloud their judgment of their hoops. Any time you beat Temple pepole know you've beaten a historically excellent program. Hate Chryst for the way the MAC is getting screwed, not Temple for pulling it off.

did I forget to mention that I hate their ignorant fans?

I gues I'm an idiot. UT is a football schol, not a basketball school. I am very bitter over the football deal because in the end it's going to screw us over one way or another. If they lose it's expected. if they win every single sports commentator's going to be saying that it's because "the MAC is a week conference" taking us many steps back from where we are, where we've been trying to get for years. it's a no-win situation for us and a win-win situation for them. Chryst is an idiot.
Temple just had 133 post topic, this topic gonna run away with post. Temple is the most talked about school on this board. that why MAC brought them in. I read Owlscope topic linked to this board. I like MAC, but in case you have not noticed, MAC does have some short commings. Temple fans discussing A-10 vs MAC & how it effects intrest of thier fan base is not ignorence. Half of the post were saying Temple better of in MAC.

Kent State made the Elite Eight in 2002. When's the last time Temple made it that far? Hell, when's the last time Temple even made the tournament? They were in the NIT the last two years.
2001, Zib....and '99, '93, '91 & '88. We are one of the most winningest program over the last 20 years.

You are entitled to your opinion and after that dismal performance on Nat TV, its hard to debate but you lose all credibility if you're going to start comparing the recent history of Kent's program vs Temple.
Recent history has everything to do with this.

We were told that this move would be good because MAC basketball would get four games a year against Temple.

What the hell's the advantage of playing a 9-7, NIT-bound team?

UB beat Rutgers, Ohio beat Rhode Island, NIU beat DePaul, Akron beat Mississippi State and still this conference has no shot at an at-large bid. Having one-third of the conference's teams play an NIT-bound program trying to cruise on its reputation isn't going to change that.

Here's the advantage: Every program goes through a down time in the history of their program (see NC, Michigan, St. John's, and even Syracuse). If Temple played 4 games a year vs MAC teams it would only help you guys because our schedule is so difficult it drives your RPI up, regardless of our record. The fact that you are ignoring the amount of success our program has had over the past 50+ years tells me you're posting with your heart and not your brain. Try not to let the average Philly-Temple fan that comes on here and tells you how we are so superior get you so upset that you make a poorly educated/researched opinion like the one quoted above. Fact Temple baseketball sucks right now but it won't forever.
I think Temple was brought in for futrue considerations, whether expansion, somebody loses div 1 status, or settle in MAC for allsports. Temple has alot advantages & potentail to grow. Whether grow or not is different topic.
I agree w/you totally unfortunately your football program has alot to do w/their inclusion. Your attendance is crap. Hopefuly the new staff can bring enthusiasm to Buffalo and get people in ther seats. Getting Temple in football is a gamble by Crist that they can draw from a big city 15K plus. I like Buffalo and think there is a desire in northern N.Y.

That being said Temple has been a running basketball joke for years run by the head thug. Saw one of the Temple posters, owlscape, w/O.'J.'s photo under his poster name, maybe you could replace it w/Chaney both got away w/crimes.

The amount of success the program has had over the past 50+ years means ZERO.

What matters is whether it's going to be any good next year and whether those four measly games are going to help this league get an at-large bid in the tournament.

Says who? The Head Goon won't be there for much longer and right now St. Joe's is eating your lunch.
