Tonight on MAC Report Radio, Rick Chryst told us that he is meeting with his counterpart in the Big East Conference next week to solidify plans for a third bowl to be held in Toronto. Chryst sounded very optimistic that this bowl game will get approval for the 2006 season, and would of course, feature a MAC vs Big East matchup.

I know we have been hearing about a third bowl for quite a while, but I believe that we are finally going to see this happen at long last. 04-rock
This is great news Dave. Love the show. Getting a third bowl would make the MAC very competitive.

It's good to hear something official. Nice reporting!

I hope the NIU fans will take this back to their board so niu85alum can ...

a) denounce a Toronto Bowl as a sure-fire disaster
B) shred Chryst for being a total incompetent
c) entertain the masses with his blustering

Click over. It will be fun to watch. 04-drinky

Awesome news. Toronto is a world-class city and would be a lot of fun for traveling MAC fans. 04-rock
Does anyone have a link where the Toronto Bowl has been discussed in the past? Mainly, I'm looking for one that might discuss the future location, ie. the Sky Dome, etc.
This could be the first bowl bid to come with its own currency hedging contract.

Says who? Downtown is a drag.

Montreal is nicer.

Whatever. It's like saying Chicago is better than New York. Maybe, maybe not.

No, that's a given.
Downtown Toronto is a drag........I disagree, Torch.....I go there quite frequently and find for the most part that it's a very nice city, much like Chicago downtown. I stay downtown frequently and sometimes just walk over to the arena to watch a Raptors game.

Maybe doing a search by topic might turn up something. It has definitely been discussed a good amount on the Big East boards. I took some heat for supporting Toronto from a few of the newer Southern fans there. They prefer to dream about adding Memphis in order to secure the freezing cold outdoor Liberty Bowl.

I think the Toronto Bowl will work out wonderfully for the MAC, Big East, and occasionally Big Ten. It will be played at Rogers Centre, formerly Skydome, home of the Argonauts and Blue Jays. The NCAA is set to approve it as the 30th bowl in April on the same day they "officially" sanction the new rotating BCS title bowl.
I tought NCAA put limit on Bowls at 28. Was wondering if 5 BCS game will be added without another bowl being droped. I don,t know about 30. Like the idea of game in Toronto, but it scares me that the city won,t support it. Indy would be perfect, B-10 & B-12 for back up. If need be, Indy could go with Mac{west]-Mac[east].

Indy will be perfect for the fourth bowl, but that won't happen untill the new stadium is built.

Search the NCAA News.

A group applied for certification for a bowl game in Toronto (last April, I think it was).

They were turned down in favor of the second game in San Diego.

The NCAA is determined to stay at 28. The San Jose game died, creating room for a new one.

Perhaps there is a buzz among ADs, commissioners and the like that a bowl game (San Francisco?) is on its last legs?

I was thinking the same thing. I'll post it.
I think Chryst was really talkin' to Mike Tranghese to figure out the best method to dump temple. 03-razz

Totally agree. New York is ok but Chicago is better.

As for the topic, I would think an Indianapolis bowl would be better but the Toronto bowl will be good. Heck, maybe we can get both down the road. 04-rock Now Chryst just needs to finish. I cautiosly optomistic but still skeptical that he can get it done.

Seriously, could acquiring Temple have been part of this negotiation? I mean no-one has come up w/ any explanation of how that deal benefitted the MAC.

Torch:

Many people have put forth ideas on how the deal benefits the MAC. It's probably more accurate to say that no one has put forth an explanation that you agree with. There is a difference. 03-wink
