Chryst and Temple (I listened to his answer to HuronDave's ? about why).

Chryst said MAC folks were very impressed with on campus facilities, Lincoln stadium, transformation to a residential school, etc. etc. Basically, all Temple needs is a winning team and the potential is there to grow the program into an excellent MAC addition.

Chryst also seemed enamored by the basketball deal with Temple - All MAC teams will benefit.

Temple is a risk. IF they can turn their program around they will be very valuable to the MAC more so then some small market MAC teams.

I think they said the same thing about Buffalo. :)

Seriously, could acquiring Temple have been part of this negotiation? I mean no-one has come up w/ any explanation of how that deal benefitted the MAC.
Torch:

Many people have put forth ideas on how the deal benefits the MAC. It's probably more accurate to say that no one has put forth an explanation that you agree with. There is a difference. 03-wink
No, people have put forth ideas of how the deal may benefit the MAC. There is a difference.

It's probably most accuarate to say that no one put forth an explanation that offers credible support on how the deal will benefit the MAC.

Fair enough.

Adding Temple will help MAC teams who want to recruit in the Philly/South Jersey area. Toledo fans will tell you how happy they are that the Rockets were able to land NJ's player of the year. That type of thing will happen more frequently for MAC teams as their exposure in the Philadelphia market increases. That will benefit the MAC.

I guess the same could be said about the basketball scheduling arrangement, but I don't follow hoops that closely, so I'll reserve comment.

Yes Temple is a risk, but IMHO a risk well worth taking. If nothing else, Temple BB will give some small boost to MAC BB, which as you know seems to have become acostomed to one NCAA bid, and I think you will all agree that it shouldn't be that way. MAC BB programs have to boost their season ticket sales,as well as their programs, and better home OOC games is a part of the answer. On Oct. 26 you will hear Dave Magarity on his views on the MAC report online, which I'am sure will agree with that.
Beauty, eh!The MAC can get coverage on ESPN and CBC-TV.Don't let it conflict with any NHL games or curling.
Temple is better than Duquesne, St. Bonaventure, or Rhode Island which are some A-10 teams that have played Ohio recently. Temple is an upper division A-10 program, while the others have been bottom or middle at best. Its a slight upgrade with Temple. Getting Temple is like the A-10 saying that they got an agreement to play Miami instead of EMU or CMU from the MAC. Temple isn't any better than the top 4-5 Temple of the MAC lately. Miami and Temple are about equal in reality. Kent has a better record than Temple over the past 7 years. Temple hasn't made the NCAA tourneyment since 2001. Temple has 25 NCAA appearances and 1 final four to Miami's 16 trips to the which leads the MAC. Despite being the MAC most decorated basketball program, Miami hasn't made a trip since 1999. Kent State's elite eight trip and 7 20 win seasons in row show that the MAC has its own teams that basketball fans can circle the game that is a must see on the schedule.

Temple with 16, also leads Miami with 5 in post season N.I.T. appearances. Ohio has had only four..

Since he made the deal, he better damn well be enamored with it. That's the only crumb the MAC got out of the current arrangement.

All sports or no sports should have been the real deal, but I digress.
