Because the Herd is so bad, playing them will simply kill your strength of schedule!!!

Just joking (kinda).

Anyway, our offensive line looked absolutely terrible, which made Hill play like sh*t. Our defense, especially our secondary, looked confused. The play-calling on offense was insanely predictable. All around horrible effort. Worst home performance since the Wofford game. OSU and Georgia--and most likely MUr--will not be fun.

BTW, guys...Although I realize that the competition you played is light years ahead of Troy in terms of talent, etc., you still got smacked 63-21 (Toledo) and 40-21 (BUGS). Probably not a great time to trash Marshall's loss.
It was Okla 40 BGSU 24. While I wouldn't go as far as to call it a moral victory, losing by 2 TDs (with conversions) to the #2 team in the country isn't that bad.
No, I don't think any MAC follower can be "thumping their chests" today, although NIU played a gutty game w/o their starting QB today and BSU played BC tough Thursday night. There's shame to spread around.
OU fans can't "thump their chests" over their 42-14 win against VMI, but we can be fairly pleased nonetheless.

OU over Pitt next week will be an interesting, if ballsy, upset pick. Not sure how likely it is, but Pitt plays Monday late afternoon in Tampa on ESPN, so they'll only have 3-4 days of prep for our new offense. Plus they are hosting Nebraska on ABC the next weekend, so we are the ultimate sandwich game. Could be interesting...

Yes , this could be interesting game , if Pitt gets to play Monday afternoon ....
But, the score was 37-10 at the end of the 3rd. The dogs, at that point, were probably called off. My point, simply, was that if your team loses, especially by a considerable margin, it probably isn't wise to trash another team that loses. Even if it was at home. By and underdog. :crying:

To their credit, I'm not sure if their games were over before they saw the Marshall score.

But, this is all pretty meaningless right now, don't you think?

FYI- The Pitt vs USF game has been moved to Dec 2nd or 3rd because of hurricane francis......I live in the tampa area and we are starting to get hammered righ about now.

So Pitt will be well rested, but also rusty.
On the embarrassment list, Marshall is at the top losing at home to Troy St. Flat out pathetic.

Toledo is next up - for the team that we all had the most hope for pulling an upset to get absolutely annihilated like that does the MAC no favors.

Akron's next up - I had really hoped to see them be competitive, at least, with a mediocre PSU team.

Miami's next up - I didn't think they played that poorly, but couldn't overcome Betts' mistakes.

I had hoped for UCF to fare better, but didn't really expect it. BG appeared to at least play tough, and NIU was really gritty without our QB.

Here is something to ponder...............

We didn't even look that bad when we lost to #1 Washington in 1991 or to #1 Ohio State in 1998. Minnesota dominated Toledo like no team has dominated Toledo since we got drilled by Miami in 1953.

I think alot of things came together to make this look so bad. First Minnesota is very good and will battle for the Big Ten title. Second, they are not as good as they played last night. Something made those guys play way out of their heads. Third, our defense is bad. Fourth, our defense played the worst they could have possibly played. Fifth, things snowballed and our offense was totally out of synch because of it.

On a positive note, we got drilled and humiliated much worse than we did in the 2002 MCB against Boston College and we didn't once lose our cool and make a frustration penalty. By halftime I was worried something was going to happen, but our guys kept their cool.

I agree with this, but it appeared to me, from the little I saw, that Stutz did not have his team ready for a tough team on the road. For a team that is supposed to be our top team, this can't happen. It's what I said in another thread - there's a lot of pressure on teams like BG, Miami, UT, NIU, to make good showings for the MAC, probably too much pressure, but it is there.

I knew Minny was good, so I didn't expect UT to win. I expected them to compete better than 63-7 in the early fourth.

I know what you're saying, but if this was truly a concern for your team then I question the sportsmanship with which they enter a contest. I would expect better out of my team in defeat.

Considering that the last time we got humiliated like this was BC in the 2002 MCB and issues happened, it is understandable that I said what I said. That BC game has been on my head ever since and this game finally proves to me that it was a fluke and BC players were probably just as much at fault as we were.

I understand where you are coming from but the game didn't start bad.

We stop Minny's offense on 3 straight plays. They pull off a fake punt at their own 22 yard line (that takes guts) and get a first down. Then they beat us deep on a long pass.

We still show our composure and show we are in the game by driving down and tying the score quickly.

Then are D gives up another long pass play and they run it in the endzone like nothing.

Our offense has to punt and Minny throws it deep for a 3rd TD. At that point our offense knew our D was not going to stop them and they started to get down and it showed the rest of the game until we put or 2nd and 3rd teamers in who were looking for a chance to show what they can do.

It's not like the absolutely dominated us in the first 5 minutes of the game, so I disagree that Amstutz didn't have the team ready to play.

Obviously, you didn't see the BG/OK game. It was 7-7 after one and 24-10 at the half. The Sooners dominated the 3rd quarter. BG drove 80 yards for a td early in the 4th and then Keon Newson intercepted White on OK's next series and returned it for a td. 13 min left and BG was down 37-24. White played the WHOLE game...so did those 2 devastating OK RB's....so did the OK defense. OK went on a 17 play, 9 min drive to ice it with a FG with 5 min left. We had our chances to stop them and get the ball back but couldn't do it....that offense is frightening with all the weapons they have.

I am very proud of BG's effort. I watched Marshall and Troy on the ESPN weekend game plan (same plan that had BG/OK).
The Herd looked horrible. Period.
I guess it is all meaningless....a loss is still a loss.

Oklahoma never took their starters out, if that is what you are trying to say. In fact, BG scored to make it 37-17 and then a couple plays later Jason White through one of the ugliest passes of the day right to a BG defender that took it into the endzone to make it 37-24. At that point it was awfully quiet in the stands and the announcers even said "the fans are getting really nervous here."

No, I didn't see the game. Yes, this is meaningless. A loss is still a loss.

It was a simple screen pass. Keon Newson figured out what play had been called and got a huge break on the ball.

That was all Keon -- who also forced two fumbles in the game.

It was still an ugly pass....especially from a Heisman winner.

No I didn't see the game, only the box score. The reason I mentioned the BUGS and Toldeo games was because a few overzealous fans of these teams were giving (although in retrospect deservedly so) major hell to Marshall for its loss. Then, BUGS (on paper) and Toledo (on the field) were completely blown out.

I guess I'd have to look at the highlight again. I didn't see it that way.
I never ripped Marshall for the lost......I was more shocked than anything else. This is only their 3rd loss at home since rejoining I-A in 1997. WMU and Toledo were the other losses at Marshall.

Toledo did get blown out. After a game like that against a Minnesota team that believes they can win the Big Ten, you have to still wonder how good Toledo is. We will find out at Kansas.

As for Marshall, they had issues no doubt about it. They didn't get blown out, but Troy would probably have got blown out by Minnesota. Last year Minnesota beat Troy 48-7, and the Gophers are better this year. Marshall has some big issues on their O-Line. Until that gets fixed, it will be hard for their star players on offense to do much.

Both Toledo and Marshall have issues right now, but Toledo's might not be that bad and we won't know until after the Rockets play at Kansas next week.

On another note......Minnesota hosts DI-AA Illinois State next weekend. What will that score be? 80-0?
