RE: New WBB Coach is....

Very impressive introduction. A great start.

Blair said they looked at around 30 candidates and had around 10 interviews. Wasn't sure if he meant he interviewed 10 different candidates or conducted 10 total interviews, because he said they had 3 separate interviews with Bogguss. Said she was not one of the coaches who was in Cleveland, as she was on vacation in Florida. So they interviewed her over zoom, and then flew her up to Cleveland for more. Gave a lot of credit to Kelly Savage for helping in the process.

She made a lot of references to the fan base and the history at Toledo. Said she has been getting calls and texts from people saying - you know about the fans, right? Said she wants to meet and interact with the fans. Said Toledo is also relatively close to family so that was also a plus. Sounded a lot like Cullop in some ways, focusing on developing her players both on and off the court.

Blair said she will be at the UT-Michigan BB game tonight and be available to meet fans.

No word on staff yet. Not much to say about coaching style except she said that we might see them play with a little more pace, shoot a few more threes and play a higher pressure D.

I'm encouraged and anxious to see how she does.

Also very impressed. Doubt she fulfills her 5 year contract, but that will mean we are moving up.

In another short clip on-line from the media interviews, Coach said that Braden has been on-campus to meet her, and that they are still working on getting Robinson up there for a visit.

Code:

But also, I have found you have to change the link you copy from "x.com" to "twitter.com" as well.

Hmmm...I haven't had to change any links. I just copy and paste in between the code you posted.

RE: New WBB Coach is....
This is a big recruiting weekend with several major showcase events, and I was wondering if UT might miss it, but Boggess did tell one of the reporters that she is going to be out recruiting this weekend. She said that she will be recruiting for her preferred roster, which is positionless 1 thru 4, with a big shot blocker who is a great passer that can make the guards more effective. She also has said she got to work with the current post players to see how they look in her system.

I also note that Coach Wideman is still listed on the roster and seems to be maybe still working with the team. So, I wonder if she will be staying on staff. Another article indicated Coach intended to bring a single assistant with her from Monmouth, but did not say who.

I think she needs an experienced point guard

Well Wideman is not staying around as an assistant, as she was named the new head coach at CSU Bakersfield. She's from California originally, so is heading back home. I know she said that she took the Toledo job specifically because she wanted to learn how to be a head coach from Cullop. Now she gets her chance. CSUB has not won double digit games since 2019-20, so she will have her work cut out.

RE: New WBB Coach is....
It does seem a little strange that we haven't heard anything about possible assistant coach hires yet. Seems kinda important to get folks hired so they can start recruiting.

I was just looking at her former staff at Monmouth. It sure does look like Geoff Lanier may be following Boggess to UT, as he has been liking and retweeting all kinds of Toledo athletic posts, and not just basketball ones.

He's a veteran assistant that has moved around a lot. Nine DI assistant jobs and counting, and before that he was a head coach for a while at JUCO North Dakota College of Science. He's had 3 MAC assistant positions already: Akron, prior to Kest's hire, when Akron was not very good; OU under Sylvia Crawly, who he followed to BC; Kent under Danielle O'Banion, who he later re-joined for a year at Loyola MD. In between had stints at Cinci, Penn State & Rutgers before landing at Monmouth. Very few of those teams were good while he was there. But, he's reportedly known as a top tier recruiter. E.g. although the O'Banion teams were quite bad at Kent, they did bring in some players who turned out to be some of the best in Kent history - Larissa Lurken and Jordan Korinek to name two. He also reportedly was responsible for a recruiting class at Rutgers rated 5th best in the country when he was there.

As for her other assistants, one was hired by Penn State. The other, her associate head coach Anjalé Barrett does not seem to have landed anywhere yet.
