Fire your hall of fame level coach, then do the lazy thing and promote his assistant .. then when trying to fix that you do the cheap thing and make a bad hire because you are still paying 2 other coaches. Just have to hope by the time we get out from under all these contracts we have enough brand power left to get an actual good coach.
Serious question: how well funded is Wichita State's NIL fund?
No clue .. probably part of the problem. We have an NIL collective .. but its like a black box. No idea how much they have, what they do with it, how much they take for "overhead". A lot of shocker fans aren't really happy with the collective. Almost zero communication from them.
As I think we are all learning, this is now a critical factor in attracting talent.

He was a high school coach before coming to Memphis. This confirms my suspicions. He didn't really do anything to really deserve a HC position at a program of the caliber of Memphis.
AK is no world beater as a coach. But he had over 10 years of high major coaching experience at Cincy and Ole Miss before coming to UAB. He has the most coaching win in Ole Miss history and an SEC conference championship as a coach. He had a real coaching resume to back up UAB hiring him. His connection to the school undoubtedly helped, but it wasn't the sole reason he got the job.
I simply do not think Penny is a good coach. I'm sorry. I saw Memphis actively quit on the court against UAB.
Given that the object of the game is to win, is Kennedy a better coach at UAB than Penny at Memphis?
I think given the talent and program resource differential, you could make an argument that AK has been a better coach at UAB vs. Penny at Memphis. Both have been a bit disappointing.
Lots of folks commented on how AK sounded like a "real coach" on our game broadcast, vs. whatever penny was doing.
I see, so Penny is expected to do better because of “talent” (for which you give Penny no credit like it fell in his lap) and “resource differential” (in which Penny plays a role).
It always amuses me when fans of AAC schools have higher expectations for Memphis than for their own school.
Yes lol.
If you have more talented teams and a program with better resources, you SHOULD win more than your conference mates. That's pretty simple to understand
Memphis last three years they’ve won the NIT and made the NCAAT twice. Not sure what the issue has been for them in league play but they were solid in the non-conference. They’ll be fine in the long run.
