that's not terrible IMO.

20 or so years ago, that would have been 40% of what the DC raised for the entire year.

It's more than we had yesterday! We do need to shift some minds to get involved to grow financial support.

RE: Thoughts about Next Week's Diggin Dukes Campaign....
I don't expect this to be a massive day. I've already upped my DC contributions significantly and also thrown a large chunk at the Collective. With the holidays coming up, I'm pretty tapped out when it comes to JMU contributions. I'm sure a lot of JMU supporters are in the same boat.

I gave today, but it wasn't serious coin. I think today is MUCH more about getting new donors (specifically former athletes) involved and starting them small. As has been mentioned on here many times, the existing donor base is largely doing all that they can. We need a lot of new donors to begin donating on an annual basis.

yea, i question the timing of this campaign so close to the holidays.

wonder if this is better before fall sports season starts. I don't know.

Lacrosse has received $17k.

that's awesome for them. we've already proven it before, but that's a sport that we can win a natty in again.

Agreed. Weird time to hit people up knowing the holiday spending season is upon us. I always give at the beginning of the year instead of the end.

You’re right that this is probably a better mindset to have. The overall dollar amount isn’t what gets me but the limited number of donors. I have to remind myself that many don’t donate to anything and some probably view going to games and buying alcohol/concessions at games as their “donation.” We are still a young fan base so it will take time.

I don't know what the expectation was, but we're exceeding it. I think many of us have higher expectations but I'm glad we're raising dollars today.

I'm ready for the spears and arrows but I feel strongly that there's a lack of leadership currently at JMU after President Alger has hid since Saturday while three different messages have come out with the latest ones coming from our retiring AD Jeff Bourne and our Head Football coach Curt Cignetti. While I believe Jeff Bourne's message most likely came from him, I think someone in the admin generated Coach Cig's message.

This year I've bought 4 season tickets, made my Proud and True contribution for parking and contributed to the Montpelier Collective.

Jon Boy needs to put on his President's pants (since I don't believe he puts on the pants in his family after encountering Mrs. Alger numerous times at basketball games this past year at the AUBC) and make a statement as to why he made the decision in coordination which whomever he coordinated with no to follow thru with the request for a TRO earlier this week.

The players on our team aliong with the coaches deserved an opportunity to play in the Sun Belt CCG. One loss did not change that or our chances to play in a bowl along with changing the less than transparent process the NCAA uses or doesn't use for waivers.

If Jon Boy doesn't come out some sort of clarifying statement we will clearly know that we were played as fans when the only thing that the JMU Administration wanted was a spot in a New Year's 6 Bowl game which would solely constitute as a "money grab".

This is a completely valid and rational take, and shame on anyone (especially a moderator) who would try to make you feel guilty for having it.

This campaign will likely exceed $350k. May not seem like a huge deal, but it makes a difference.

Also please give what you can today to other charities as well, particularly veterans organizations. My favorites are Gary Sinise foundation, Tunnels to Towers, and Travis Mannion Foundation. All do great work on behalf of our veterans.

I know, just think from Black Friday through Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday many people spend $$$$$ by the time Tuesday rolls around to get gifts for family. Donating to a school, sport, program etc. should be moved to a different point of the year, maybe like after income tax refunds start rolling out.

JMU’s traditional Giving Day is still set for February. So this will all be done again in less than 3 months.
