based upon Admin and BOV's reluctance to further pursue legal action regarding the Football team's playing in Sun Belt CCG and possibly NY6 Bowl.
I will continue to support our coaches and student athletes. This is not on them.

Not doing so would be cutting off one's nose to spite the face.

You got it. 04-cheers

Go Dukes!
The sport specific giving will be very telling.
Many have been afraid that Olympic sports like golf, track, field hockey etc would get left behind and ignored if JMU moved up to FBS football.

They are correct, but it is the American way. Money will go to where alumni hearts are most connected.
We should do a pool to guess how the total donations will break out by sport.
In dollars or perhaps as a ratio.

Will football donations be 10X more than men’s basketball donations?
Will men’s basketball donations be 10X more than baseball donations?

We will soon see that all sports are NOT equal and athletic departments should only devote resources in a proper ratio to the importance of a sport.

If golf is 1%, then maybe they should only get $600k of the $60 MM annual budget. $1 MM would be overspending on a sport that simply does not move the needle for anything.

Your post has me thinking. Instead of “alumni hearts” perhaps the issue is ROI from both a revenue and university publicity perspective. Anyway, are they really getting left behind though? And, are you suggesting we no longer fully fund the olympic sports to the NCAA allowed scholarship limits? Do you know of another school that has a very successful football or mbb program who handles the $$$ as you mentioned above? I have always been proud that we do fully fund all of our teams and it seems that we do work to provide them a great experience and facilities etc. I am trying to follow your thoughts and the implications for JMU athletics.
I will donate to Athletics upon ordering football season tickets, as I always do.
Man, if someone decides NOT to donate to our AMAZING Athletic Program (Football 10-1 #24AP, MBB 5-0 #22AP, MSOC Sweet 16, WSOC NCAAT, WVOL NCAAT, great individual/team results in track, golf, tennis...) because we got denied by a waiver twice by the NCAA when we knew going in we were likely only going to a bowl if not enough teams qualify, you are ONE CHEAP BASTARD!

I'm talking Frank Shirley, (jelly of the month club), level of cheap. That is sickening to think someone would would not donate because a lawsuit didn't get filed.

This already happens. You think football and hoops don’t get the lion’s share of the budget? Your constant squeaky wheeling about how we shouldn't fully fund our non-revenue sports is your absolute worst take. And you have SO MANY bad takes. You want JMU athletics to operate like ODU or VCU and I find that repulsive.

Consider the source. He's had other horrible takes here as well.
ALL JMU athletics deserve our unqualified support

It is the gift that keeps on giving the whole year though.
As a diehard and someone who only wants success for our organization, JMU twitter is making the fanbase look like absolute CLOWNS.
Gotta consider who is active on Twitter. Mostly dopes. Not a surprise JMU Twitter isn’t full of thoughtful dialogue.
I think there are lot of thoughtful Dukes handling Twitter for us, however rational people are fleeing that platform in droves.

Yeah, it’s just a place where the loudest voices are often the dumbest.
I will not stop donating to the athletic program, or the Collective when able. That would not be a good thing.

Not at all. The difference is all of the other investment. I.e. does golf really need a $million short game facility ? Does golf need an international recruiting budget to get guys from Spain, France, India, Switzerland? Nope.
This is just an example of overspending on Olympic sports that have no return on investment.
You can alot full scholarships and be more frugal on the other expenses. Nobody will notice. The sport simply doesn’t move the needle at all.

And I absolutely love golf.

When you need to pay a head football coach at least $2million annually then everything else has to be scrutinized. We’ve heard several times from Bourne that “money matters”
