First time in AUBC, and wow! Amazing building and incredible energy and volume.

Rivals anything the convo ever did and I’ve seen all the big games in that building.

To the JMU students, thanks, continue to get out there and root. I hope you can school folks in 40 years about the awesome time you had while at JMU.

Radford and their fans were very solid too. Just a very fun night.

Yes it is…was just about to post the same thought. Solid start to the season. Incredible crowd! Very relieved that the Dukes didn’t blow their first home game as a ranked team!

Curious as to why Roberson got so many minutes tonight, instead of Carey. I realize Roberson hasn’t received many minutes in the previous games, but Carey appears to be the superior player.

Radford wasn't a NCAA tournament team last year. They played in the CBI and lost in the semi finals.

The AUBC is a hell of a facility when it's packed out. Absolutely P5 quality.

Radford is a very solid mid-major level program. Their other 2 losses this year were to UNC and VCU.

The spread was -6.5, so we underperformed a little, and certainly didn't have our best performance in the first half. But this is a gritty team that really knows how to pull out wins at the end.

This year could be very special.

I know Radford isn’t a great team, but that was a great win. The Dukes were on the edge of losing that game but made several key defensive plays when down by a few points to prevent Radford pulling away.

The most important thing is that JMU will remain ranked for a second straight week when the polls come out. The media attention is priceless for the team, the program, and the entire athletics department. THe fabulous annual crossover of football and basketball is shooting us into a euphoric state of fandom.
Can it possibly get any better than this? Yes it can and I want to see what it feels like.

The trio of small Radford guards were very good and they were able to hide their front court weakness very well tonight. I thought Byington would go big to dominate the paint, but he couldn’t guard the trio that way. Once again, the infusion of the full court press helped the team get some runs and X filled the role of defensive stopper whenever he was put in the game.

Take the close win. Bask in the glory of another full week of being ranked and go get some wins in Cancun where the opposition is a bunch of mediocre mid majors. Should be a chance to get honed in on tournament ball on a neutral court that will pay dividends in March.

Thanks for the fact checking and fine print. I'll correct myself too. Yes, I was in the AUBC for the SBC announcement. I was so grateful and happy for that announcement.

Then and now the SBC is an amazing fit for us. We'll get humbled in some sports, but we're definitely raising the tides with our SBC colleagues. Props to all the SBC teams. Go Dukes!

Another tangent to the game was the poor event management.
I have to assume the AUBC has real time visibility to ticket sales and they can forecast how big a crowd is going to be days in advance and then crew accordingly along with coordinating local traffic cop needs.
However they got caught with the pants down.

Zero traffic cops at the Peking lot entrance across from Walmart and it was a disaster. Then the parking garage had a double check of parking passes unnecessarily slowing entry. Got checked at the entrance which is fine. But then got checked again after the first turn in the garage by a nazi. He completely stopped every car, slowly read the parking pass, slowly explained parking procedure., took about 30 seconds per vehicle with his stop hand held up.
Dumb. When you have a large crowd you need efficient processing. A double park pass check contributed to many people not getting in the arena by the start time.

To piggyback off this: been to two AUBC games, UVA with club seats and Radford with regular seats. The concessions situation is not good at AUBC, similar to Bridgeforth. Very, very, very long lines, with a great need for more pop up type concession locations, perhaps drink only kiosks or something. It was bad. But, it’s a great facility for sure. What he ^^^ said about the parking garage. And one more thing, why do people cut across the the parking lot and force their way in instead of waiting in the flow of traffic going around like a decent human?? Geez. And it only gets you in front of a few cars and turns 20 minutes to get out into 19 1/2 minutes….
