Yes. Also if Lincoln Ransom pitches. He pitched some for the Peninsula Pilots during the summer.

Lincoln introduced himself as a full time pitcher at the baseball banquet. We have a podcast episode with Levari, Ticer, Kyle Edwards, Finny, Bashara, and Holobetz dropping early next week that we recorded live at the event. If you don’t want to wait, you can see the interviews on our YouTube page.

Kenny said he was gonna play third, first and pitch.

Thanks for the information. I wondered last season why Kenny wasn't tried on the mound any at least in relief after reading of his pitching success in his bio. There were several times when certain pitchers didn't fare well and knowing his background it seemed like it would have been worth a try to see what he could do. Hopefully he does a decent job if and when his number is called to pitch this season.
In general, it's hard pitch well (accuracy) if you haven't been working on it.
On paper, we have a lot of decent arms this season. But they have all had their hiccups at times. Looking forward to seeing what they can do.

We had a chance to talk with Class of 2024 ODU Baseball commit Brody Connors about his recruitment process, his game and more. Check it out.

Can baseball be the bright spot in ODU athletics this year? Do you guys who follow the team closely think we have a decent chance to finish top 3 or so and maybe win the conference? I dont follow the baseball team enough to know, but I need some good Monarch victories and if they come from the baseball team, I'll take it.

Tough conference, but this should be a good team.

On paper, we have a good balance of hitting and pitching. I doubt the hitting will be as good as the 21 and 22 teams, but decent. The pitching could be somewhere between the 21 and 22 teams. The schedule is projected to be tougher than in recent years. If the SBC has another strong year, this could be one of our toughest schedules ever.

We were lucky enough to attend the Step Up to the Plate fundraiser and do some live interviews. We talk with Finny, Ticer, Bashara, Holobetz, Kenny and Kyle about the upcoming season. Give it a watch if you have the time.

I’ll add this because I haven’t seen it mentioned yet. Next year with the stadium being under construction, they’ll hit the road for the non-conference portion of the schedule and have some awesome series already booked; Auburn, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech. Could be a good reason to take a trip and support the team while getting to visit some great college baseball parks.

Are all of these 3-game series or are we combining a couple of them in one trip with mid-week games?
Would love to know what the guarantee money is for these and what the expected travel costs would be for each.

Finny didn't go into detail on all that at the event. Will have to ask around for that information. I'll update when I know more or maybe someone else on the board already knows.

RE: 2023-24 ODU Baseball
Looking forward to the season. The Northeastern series should be a great non-conference one. A lot of hype around the Northeastern team. The Sun Belt is going to be a grind (in a good way). Get off to a great start and keep the momentum through the conference season.

Roster turnovers with JUCO/transfer guys are always a wildcard, but we have had a strong history of bringing new guys in and having them gel immediately.

Lets go, Archs.

A13 you are doing a good job of promoting ODU baseball. When the new stadium is finished, I can only hope the recruitments can keep par with those sunbelt & big P5 schools. Hopefully the new stadium will bring in exceptional talent, that good draw some revenue. I don’t know Verlander’s mind set, but he would have been a good fund raiser had it not been for the Jarrett/Gusso issue. Maybe, that still wasn’t the issue and Verlander was really not interested. It seems with money he has made, he would have at least given something, as that was at ODU were he got his start.

JMU announced they have extended their baseball coach Marlin Ikenberry to 2026. He's been their head coach since 2016 and here are their results in that period:
2016: 24-31
2017: 24-27
2018: 26-26
2019: 31-26
2020: 10-7
2021: 11-17
2022: 27-26
2023: 31-25

He's 184-185 in that time frame.

I just know they're pissed. That's really their black eye sports wise.

Yeah, I assume they made this choice since they are in the market for a new athletic director. Don't want the new guy to be forced into a decision like that on day 1.

Is a conference rival extending their coach not relevant to the discussion?

Pitching rotation for the weekend will be
Holobetz starting on Friday Gomez in relief.
