I do fill our AD doesnt have an issue with the denial either. Had to appeal to give the impression he would fight for his school.

I respect your opinion, and ultimately JSU understood what they were getting themselves into by moving up to FBS. You're entirely correct, and there's not much room to complain.

However, I'm of the mindset that dumb rules should be destroyed. JSU's and JMU's players have put in the work to dominate their fellow FBS opponents and should be rewarded as such. I know my word is meaningless, of course 04-rock

Im ok with changing the rule but do it before the season not towards the end. Not fair to the folks at the other schools who make plans to CCG games.

I can't help but remember how it felt when the ASUN revoked our eligibility for the football conference title after we blew out No. 10 Stephen F. Austin. Had our waiver been granted, I would have taken no joy in seeing NM State be screwed by a mid-season rule change.

RE: JAX STATE is Likely BOWL BOUND
To clarify... Jax State would not have pressed CUSA to kick out NMSU. Different situations at play:

The Sun Belt held off on naming its CCG representatives until the waiver ruling for one obvious reason: If JMU were declared fully postseason eligible, and then won the Sun Belt title, then they would likely be the G5 representative in the NY6. This would mean a lot of money for the Sun Belt.

CUSA would've gained nothing from having JSU vs NMSU in the title game. So rather than delay the announcement, they went ahead and declared NMSU as Liberty's opponent. (Thus, giving a bit more time for ticket sales, travel and logistics, etc.)

So why did Jax State file the waiver?

If we were declared fully postseason eligible, then we would NOT have to play the "Magic Number" game, waiting for teams to be eliminated in order to know we're bowl bound. Our (current) 7 wins would put us firmly in line for a bowl game and, if we're lucky enough to beat LT and NMSU, we'd be near the front of the line with 9 wins.

With the waiver denied, we're behind all the 6-win teams. No big deal -- we knew it going in.

As for a certain NMSU fan who seems to believe JSU should be burdened by an asterisk -- I don't get what you're saying. If you beat us, you don't have an asterisk. So worry about that, man. We're not your enemy. We're just a mere team transitioning from FCS looking to compete in the big scary world of FBS. If we have an asterisk put by our name for only being bowl eligible due to a technicality, why would that burden us? We'd still be bowl eligible. Isn't that what counts? Give us the damn asterisk. We'll wear it proudly.

RE: JAX STATE is Likely BOWL BOUND
Quite honestly the fanbases reactions to the waiver denial has been completely reflective of what you’d expect out of JSU and JMU fans if you’ve ever spent any amount of time around either group.

Jax fans not making a big deal or pouting knowing their goals are all still out in front of them.

JMU fans doing the opposite and going scorched earth because the NCAA won’t bow to their superiority complex. Props to JSU repping their conference well. I see some SBC fans who feel the opposite about JMU.

Yep, most Jax St fans are fun, respectful, & kind, & I'm glad they joined us in moving from the ASUN to CUSA!

ESPN indicates that Jax State, JMU and Tarleton have been informed that they are not eligible for postseason play! Truly Sorry, Jax State.

Hell, the Sun Belt hasn't officially said they will block JMU since they didn't get a Waiver. The assumption is they will, but there's some prevailing thought that a JMU/Troy title game would get a lot more media attention than Coastal/Troy for the 2nd straight season.

There's no actual NCAA rule saying a Conference can't declare an ineligible champion. Its just the conference that does forfeits any shot at the NY6 that year.

It's hard to blame them, honestly. I think if we were being really honest, if it was our school that was in their second year of full FBS play, and they were undefeated with a high chance to make it to a NY6 bowl or CFP spot... you'd want people to fight tooth and nail to eliminate a rule that does more harm than good.

The chances of one G5 school getting the NY6/CFP spot each year is about 1.6%. The opportunity may never come around for many G5's once we get our shot. I can't blame JMU for going all out and being angry.

If JSU was undefeated at this point with the chance to be the frontrunner for the NY6 bowl, don't you think they'd act differently? They know they're likely going to a normal bowl game at this point, which was going to be the best case scenario anyway after having 3 losses.

If Sam Houston State was undefeated right now... with wins over Liberty, Air Force, BYU, and Houston.... with a mostly FCS roster.... and was the clear-cut best team for the NY6 slot... would you expect your administration to just sit on their laurels and not push for that NY6 slot?

Yes I would expect JSU folks to act different. I’ve come across plenty of JSU fans, not talking on the internet, in real life, and have found all to be classy. JMU fans aren’t acting like this because they’re undefeated, they’re acting like this because they’re JMU fans.

Did you think my response was a criticism of their administration’s process? I don’t think anyone has an issue with Bourne or JMU’s administrative decision making through the waiver denial. The school itself did the right thing, and I would hope mine would do the same given the scenario you presented. But I also wouldn’t expect it to be granted, after decades of enforcement (YES, IT IS A GOOD RULE) because… “we’re special”.

Not getting to be the official ASUN champion didn’t bother me in the least. We finished undefeated in the league and that’s all that matters. We had a scholarship advantage due to being in transition so winning the league didn’t really matter as we couldn’t go to the playoffs anyway.

We made up a fake trophy and claimed our own title. Whoever came in second (don’t care enough to look it up) won and got the official trophy and an asterisk in the standings.

I was just glad to be out of there. I feel bad for EKU and APSU getting stuck in that mess with the phony football conference. Should have stayed in the OVC and left from there instead of Gumball’s wet dream of the whole league moving to FBS. I was worried someone else would get the call and leave us in that mess. Glad we got a lifeline. Thank you, CUSA.

I think it's one of those things that... the more JMU keeps winning, then the closer it gets to a NY6 berth actually being "something that could've been"...

JMU is experiencing severe FOMO right now... and the only cure will be if they lose somewhere along the way.

Didn't JMU vote for the same rule that they are now against ?

I have ZERO sympathy for JMU. The rule is the same today as it was before the season.

Don't like it? Try to change during the OFF Season.

There seems to be expectation a suit will be filed today sometime, with an effort to seek an injunction hearing as soon as possible. What a mess. Nevertheless, based on the other boards for college football in general and the sunbelt in particular....JMU is not endearing themselves to their new conference mates or others for that matter. Right or wrong, the majority seem to agree the rule is ridiculous while also viewing JMU as an entitled bunch of petulant malcontents. Go 'Neers!

Regardless of what happens to JSU and JMU, going forward we need to remove all postseason restrictions on teams moving to FBS. If you move up to FBS then move back down within 5 years, you deserve to be punished. But teams who are ready to compete in FBS from day 1 should be allowed to compete from day 1.

It's not that Jax state would give you an asterisk the NCAA and CUSA , or the rules if you will, did that by having a 3rd ranked team in the ccg. Therefore the asterisk would be to simply acknowledge you weren't supposed to be there except for the rules that say the legitimate 2nd place team was disallowed.
