I’d feel that way. Still, Huff is a solid coach. He coached the Herd to wins over Notre Dame and VT did he not?
Marshall will get it together this season. Would help to get Ali back in the starting backfield.
Longhorn: Thanks for your sportsmanship in saying that. But:
ND last year; different QB and a 1 year RB who made a big difference all season, + that stingy defense you all observed at your HC last season,
And this year VT having their weakest team in a generation kinda alters how we are perceiving that after these last 3 games…
Best of luck Dukes! Y’all have it in your hands to finish out 12-0 imo.
VT does suck and JMU would obviously beat them by at least six digits so I can see your point.
Huff was supposed to be a great recruiter but at best Marshall talent overall is average for a solid SBC. At times Huff makes WTF in game decisions hard to say if any of them would have changed the outcome but still. He's done nothing to improve or upgrade the offensive line which means he is left with limited options at QB. Fancher is a good athlete but isn't a good QB. Huff also doesn't develop players so when starters are injured (Ali) the offense struggles. I've heard it said more than once, a team is only as good as its backups and to that end Fancher was hobbled against JMU and probably shouldn't have played.
To be 100% fair, Huff did a heck of a job assembling the defense last year. Unfortunately he was unable to match that effort this year (DC all the way to position coaches and players). He has yet to get a "franchise" QB. He did a great job to get Laborn last year. I don't think we've hit on enough WR's. I really like our TE group this year. Our OL has been Swiss cheese for the biggest part of two seasons. Whether our protection schemes are just bad or our talent is bad, they haven't had much success the past two years. Our non-mobile QB last year had no chance. Our QB this year is being effective scrambling. We just haven't got it all together. That's the challenge at this level.
Poor staff hires. Poor recruitment and player development. Release him after this season and look for a successful, experienced FCS HC who likes a wide open offense. Someone who has connections to experienced coordinators. They would basically double their salaries for the most part.
Time for a change.
He is terrible, and I can't wait until he's no longer our coach. We desperately needed a change from Doc, and Huff certainly talked the talk. But his coaching and recruiting simply can't match to his words. We made a bad hire and now we have to live with the consequences for the next few years. Even if he's fired this year the new coach doesn't have much left to work with, though I know with the transfer portal a quick reload is possible, in theory at least.
Bad look for Huff. Gets defensive, says he protects his players (Fanhcer?) and admits his kids don't see him most of the week before answering the question.

"I won't play anyone's kid who isn't healthy enough to play" does that mean he will holdout Fancher if he's less than 100%? I don't think he was that for JMU and probably isn't any healthier for this weekend.

Defensive? No, I don’t think so. He perfectly explained his philosophy about playing injured players.
Huff is a good coach, and an even better man. I know Marshall fans are frustrated after 3 straight losses, what fanbase wouldn’t be upset? But Huff remains a solid gameday coach.
Huff knows football, but hs appears to have little or no help from members of his staff. His recruiting which would supposedly be a strong point has been abysmal. Fancher was not a quarterback in high school, he simply played the position because he was the best athlete on the team, yet he insists on playing him even though injured. Help from the portal has been almost non existent even though he brought in roughly 28-30 players.

Huff said he brought in 35 P5 players since in the last two years.

I also feel Huff is a good coach, he lost a good DC this past offseason and we all know how important the OC/DC/strength coaches are. He needs to get his staff upgraded and create depth. from what i seen he maybe relys on the starters too much. Marshall can play with anybody for awhile.
Huff is done. The only question is how much is it going to cost to buy out his last year. No one is stupid enough to hire him away. He is just as full of
smoke and mirrors than Danny.

How the tables turn. Seems like not long ago, he was thrown into arguments to be the next head coach at Michigan State...
