Memphis will never go anywhere. We could win a national championship in football and basketball in the same year, and they'd still find scabs to pick.

At this point we should just go Indy like BYU did. Try and get into the Big East to save our basketball program.

Buffalo is interesting. Do the East programs support that add? A school like Buffalo suggests we’d need to go to East-West divisions. Same for UMass.

Now what happens to the AAC? Anything? Do we somehow talk the Pac 2 over here? Or reverse merge all of us? Or add a replacement for SMU from somewhere else? Or just do nothing?

Aresco has already been quoted as saying he has a "contingency plan if SMU leaves," so let's hear it, Mike.

The AAC needs to do something and not just sit back and react by taking some bs cusa school

What's the difference? We're already CUSA.

You are going to find out in short order just how much this site hates and detests what our conference stands for. They will come into this board and tell you who to invite. Believe me, they will not be great adds. Sunbelt will want your program to deinvest, and move down to them. People in other conferences will want your school to join some conglomeration of the MWC. You will see it, mark my words.

This is where your mettle will be tested.

Don’t worry about us. We’re all survivors of the lifeboat scramble off the SS C-USA. And some of us also survived the wreckage of the SS WAC.

We’ve also learned how to deal with the Sunbelt trolls. You will find us supportive.

LOL. Liberty is easily qualified for CUSA and could buy their way out of the grant of rights. Their financial athletic budget is better than the average CUSA, they are in a better than average market, have better than average facilities, and would be a local rival for Charlotte, Navy, and ECU.

The boosters already pledged $200M to help them struggle through it.

Not to mention, they will still share in the ACC's CFP distribution, which is large, and also in NCAAT credits and other ancillary income, if available.

Folks don't seem to understand that SMU will have more revenue from these sources than they currently gain from ALL sources in the AAC, even if they don't share in the direct media revenue.

Yeah, we're going to reverse merge into the PAC2 with schools that have basketball arena's that are less than 3K capacity 3000 miles away. Bold plan. I can only imagine how much more attractive we look to the PAC teams without SMU in the conference.

Nice Fkn work Mike. You saved your job at the expense of everyone else. Talked to OSU and WSU yet Mikey?

Hope you enjoyed your trip in Dublin with the family.

RE: SMU to the ACC
The AAC is in a VERY hot seat right now as the 3 scenarios that could play out all affect us drastically.

1. The PAC 2 expands. I assume this would include a major chunk of schools from the AAC leaving. End game for the AAC.

2. The PAC 2 join the MWC. This would ultimately kill the idea of the AAC being the best G5 and have massive repercussions on our league capturing the playoff spot.

3. The PAC 2 join the AAC. This would not only solidify our conference as the best G5, we would then be able to add SDSU and Boise to create a west wing. This conference would likely become an almost automatic qualifier for the CFP.

Disagree. Reality is that SMU is more more valuable to the ACC (by gaining TX for the ACC net) than SMU is to the AAC. In the AAC we anticipated this by adding NT who has more fans in the metro DFW area than does SMU. So while I've enjoyed SMU in the AAC (great ESPN game day in Memphis 2019), they haven't won either a FB or MBB championship while a member & they shouldn't be missed as a media value.

Been saying this since day one. If Mike loses out to the MWC, we're CUSA.

And they'd make less in the AAC still. Let's be realistic here.

That’s assuming the ACC stays intact with current membership and media deal. I’m not sure I would bet on that so many years into the future. Also depends on there not being a major restructuring of college football in general. It’s a gamble. One that may pay off, but there is definite risk there.

No one in that conference is going anywhere until 2036 minimum. That's 12 years to stack money.

rich alumni can make it happen. Let see how it translates on the field.

The fate of the AAC/Aresco is on the ability of him to achieve either of these top options:

1. Bring on Army and VCU as members. This would stabilize and boost the conference profile to such an extent that no current members would leave for the MWC. We wouldn’t necessary be the top G5 every year, but we’d be close to it.

2. Attract OSU and WSU, along with 3-5 MWC members. This would solidly the AAC as the top G5 conference and stabilize all its members for the next decade. It would also provide a coast to coast conference attractive to media outlets.

If Aresco is unable to achieve either of these options, he’s ultimately failed the AAC and its members.

Why the hell y'all acting so upset? We knew they were gone. It doesn't change anything concerning our plans to expand.

Oregon State, Washington State, Army, Liberty, and the top of the MW are still available.

Aresco is a great commish. There are forces in realignment that are out of his control. Have some faith. Now it's our turn.

I don't understand the "sky is falling" crowd on this. We didn't need 4 teams in Texas. 3 is plenty.

Respect goes to SMU and their admin for getting very creative and making the ACC an offer they couldn't refuse. ECU made a similar one to the Big East back in the day but couldn't get over the hump.

Don't get me wrong, it sucks being left behind but we didn't lose our best team competitively or our best brand. If we can't build a west wing, speaking selfishly I'd love to see another team in the east. The west is already geographically compact. We need another team in the east to help with travel.
