Now what happens to the AAC? Anything? Do we somehow talk the Pac 2 over here? Or reverse merge all of us? Or add a replacement for SMU from somewhere else? Or just do nothing?

Aresco has already been quoted as saying he has a "contingency plan if SMU leaves," so let's hear it, Mike.

Don’t laugh at me but what about TX State if they decide to backfill? They would fit the “markets” deal with Austin-San Antonio corridor. Plus they have pretty good facilities, better than some here. And football, with right coaching, has potential to be really good. Baseball and basketball programs are pretty good too. Gut feeling is they stand pat though.

As much as I don’t want more Texas schools (cause we have enough), I agree that Texas State is the next logical choice if we don’t get Georgia State. Problem is ESPN doesn’t like us taking their assets so we likely stuck with another CUSA or SunBelt. Maybe we get a MWC team.

Yeah, but P5 is way more cool.

And remember, they're not really giving up $40M a year. Only $7M a year in practical terms. And they'll make it all up one year after that.

Better said: They could've spent 200m in the AAC and would have gone to a P5 with an actual paycheck back in 2021.

It's makes me sick to my stomach to sit here and continue to watch Memphis be left behind.

In 2013 our dreams came true by being added to the AAC. Joining a league with UCF, Louisville, Cincinnati, Houston, SMU, UConn, Rutgers, South Florida, and Temple.

It's been horrific to see 90% of our conference leave for power leagues while Memphis has been left for dead.

I could see Tulsa and Memphis campaigning for a 16 team MWC with OSU and WSU.

The AAC adding six, not four, last round is playing out like many here expected.

I think we should both exit, form a two-school conference, and play each other 8 times a year in football and 18 times in basketball.

Same. Like a sick joke.

Tulane athletics relevant for the first time in a century....sorry, no. No joy for you.

so from the old southwest conference only Rice (and that's really by choice because they had the money to be the Texas version of Stanford) isn't back in a power league.

That’s a lot of talk for a school with 1 regular season basketball championship and 0 football championships in the AAC.

Time to go for the kill and bring in WSU, OSU, SDSU, Boise, CSU, AFA, and UNLV.

OSU, WSU join in 2024, all others in 2025. AAC will waive entry fees and can help the MWC with exit fee support.

Congrats and Good Luck on the move.

As for AAC. We stay at 13 unless we can get Oregon State and Washington State

RE: SMU to the ACC
This is where the healing starts.

Think of it this way, it is a pretty sad day for us. We escape the shootings and the natural disasters from the world by focusing on what makes us happy. We take our minds off the rising costs of everything from life. We expect relief and respite from this bad world, but we will not find any this weekend, or next week.

AAC Newbies, congratulations, you are now an AAC Remainer as of 2024, to a degree.
You are going to find out in short order just how much this site hates and detests what our conference stands for. They will come into this board and tell you who to invite. Believe me, they will not be great adds. Sunbelt will want your program to deinvest, and move down to them. People in other conferences will want your school to join some conglomeration of the MWC. You will see it, mark my words.

This is where your mettle will be tested.

Some strategies I am using to deal with this, is to a) care way way less. Living in the new world, there is a group of people with an agenda, and its not for the well being of humans. There is a grandeur plan, and United States College sports is relatively meaningless. There however is going to be a new time, and a new place where Justice will be had. In that day, hopefully we can find away to celebrate fair and just sports competition. b) Take a break from social media. c) Just because I am going to be having a very subdued labor day, and dealing with yet another AAC aftermath, there are alot of humans also not having a great weekend and future. But theirs is: Fire killed my family, Flooding destroyed everything i worked for, my home. So many people are having hard times with everything, that it is just nice to know there are people out there got some good news this morning.

Do what you have to guys, thats the moral of the story. I hope its a step forward for you and your program. You feelings are so valid, and shared with many more people. You are just brave enough to communicate your thoughts on the internet, while you still can. I can't say it will get better, but i can share you there is hope out there just gotta search that out.

SMU, Glad you are going to have a great weekend. Someone needs to, an it doesnt have to be me :D This is rough..

The message is clear about Memphis not receiving an invitation to a P5 conference.

The boosters already pledged $200M to help them struggle through it.

Not to mention, they will still share in the ACC's CFP distribution, which is large, and also in NCAAT credits and other ancillary income, if available.

And I think SMU shares in any income from Clemson and Florida State should those schools pay a penalty to leave the ACC early. This amount could be significant.

It's a piece of cake for the ponies to extend this offer. It will be no problem at all when you consider the trans ams and money left in shoes by SMU alims in previous years. ;-)
