Congress targets 18 historic CFB stadiums for major $$ upgrades
Hey ghost, what ya think about this? I think it might set your hair on fire, lol.

16 P5 schools + Yale and SJSU. All but 2 of the P5 schools (Cincy and Duke) are in the SEC or the B1G, if I counted right.

Political influence, anyone? And ALL of us are paying for these. 04-cheers

Quote:Ole Miss, Mississippi State football stadiums targeted by Congress for upgrades
by Caleb Salers
August 25, 2023

EXCERPTS:

...The Congressional Historic Stadium Caucus, established by co-chairs Congressmen Garret Graves, R-La., and Mark Pocan, D-Wis., was launched with intentions to update some of college football’s most historic stadiums, many of which are over 100 years old, and enhance their capabilities...

The article goes on to say Ole Miss launched a campaign in 2021 to raise $215M for upgrades to its stadium, so 18 of these could get expensive.

It goes on to say that 15 of the 18 stadiums could soon host CFP games, so that's why the upgrades are needed.

More of the article...

Quote:...With federal funding potentially available to the universities for stadium repairs, it is possible that technological and infrastructure upgrades could take place at the two Mississippi stadiums sooner rather than later.

The stadiums and their affiliated universities include:

Beaver Stadium (Penn State)
Camp Randall Stadium (Wisconsin)
Cotton Bowl (Dallas, Texas)
Davis Wade Stadium (Mississippi State)
Franklin Field (Pennsylvania)
Husky Stadium (Washington)
Jordan-Hare Stadium (Auburn)
Los Angeles Coliseum (USC)
Memorial Stadium (California)
Memorial Stadium (Illinois)
Memorial Stadium (South Carolina)
Nippert Stadium (Cincinnati)
Rose Bowl (UCLA)
Spartan Stadium (San Jose State)
Tiger Stadium (LSU)
Vaught-Hemingway Stadium (Ole Miss)
Wallace Wade Stadium (Duke)
Yale Bowl (Yale)

Is memphis still getting the "pimp my ride" LED lights around the rim and new curb feelers on the simmonize bowl or has the city given it to the nba and some asinine soccer sdatium?

That one is still TBD, and state funded. I'm sure they'll screw it up. Especially with a new mayor coming in January.

This other deal is federally funded, so all of us get to pay for their stadiums.

Why in the world would Cindy's crib need to be upgraded? They just finished that a few years ago.

You mean Yale with billions in their endowment needs government assistance.

That’s like giving Gates and Musk subsidies.

They should be removed from office for focusing on what really matters to this country. No shame. Congress knows that no one pays attention to their bull****.

Why would any private school be on that list?

Same reason they get federal funding for all sorts of other things. There are very few if any true PRIVATE schools.

Fun Fact. I performed at Franklin field in high school marching band several years ago. It needed to be upgraded back then. Can these private schools not afford this on their own?

If I’m not mistaken, the Cotton Bowl is the only one on the list that isn’t a university’s home stadium. I believe only two games are played there each year (Texas vs OU) and the actual Cotton Bowl game, and the G5 have had representation in 4 of the last 7 Cotton Bowl Classics. Nonetheless, yes, it’s silly for Congress to venture into these waters. The Cotton Bowl is owned by Dallas and it should be left to the city. San Antonio has upgraded the Alamodome several times and, as a blue-collar city, has nowhere near the resources that Dallas does.

Let's see, 8 figure media deals. Check.
80% of the CFP money. Check.
Mostly state supported flagships. Check.
Dang it, there must be something we're missing...

Our tax dollars to fund it. Shocking. I see their names on it and where they are from lol.

The Cotton Bowl Classic (bowl game) isn't even played at the stadium. It's in Jerry World. The Cotton Bowl does host two college games. In addition to the Red River Shootout (Texas/OU), the prior weekend has the State Fair Classic between Grambling State and Prairie View A&M.

I think they might use it for high school playoff games, but anything else is a one-off event, like the NHL Winter Classic game it once hosted. There's not even a third-tier bowl game there anymore since the First Responder Bowl moved to SMU's Ford Stadium.

Well, the bright side, these schools will have more money for NIL deals. May have to move it around a little bit to make it appear legal.
