I see potential on the team. It might take until the end of the season but if they keep their heads up and together it will be there.

Yes, want to see them in the conference games, we’ll get some Ws.

RE: Kent State vs. UCF
These poor RBs, they don’t stand a chance behind that playcalling being so obvious and that o-line getting blown up. And this punting is awful, hard to believe we have a 3rd year starter out there.

Didn't watch any of the game (had kid duties) but I knew there was no chance of us covering that spread.

First impression of Burns. Offense not fast enough, beard not long enough.

RE: Kent State vs. UCF
It's a shame that this is the year they went for a less arduous OOC "money game" schedule. If they had known the program would be gutted then they could have scheduled Georgia, Ohio State and Alabama and made a ton of money. The results would have been roughly the same.

RE: Kent State vs. UCF
After the first couple drives I thought Alaimo's arm talent was really apparent. As the game went on his throws got further off the mark and he looked worse. His receivers were not making many plays for him though, that's for sure. Based on what we saw tonight, I think we have every reason to be worried about the O Line and the WRs. The RBs are probably the most talented group on offense but the O Line is going to have to improve if they're going to be successful. Hopefully they'll look better when we get to opponents that we match up with better.
In general the offense looked like a unit that lost all of its starters and the starting QB didn't show up until after the spring game. Hopefully with some time they get on the same page. Otherwise I fear we're in for some Paul Haynes era offensive numbers.
Has anyone heard what's up with Ky Thomas? He didn't get in even in garbage time. So I have to believe there's some kind of injury.

Painful to watch this game. The Flashes had their moments, but did not capitalize on them. I feel they will get better. Was not impressed with UCF.

Get in the I, control the clock, punt it away and play good defense. Gets ya to the bar much quicker.

OMG - Please don't use that name. And I pray not. It's really sad how a coach leaving + the transfer portal can decimate a program to the depths it did. I know it's only been 1 game, but last year we played Oklahoma to a draw in the first half. I thank Lewis for his contribution, but he did us no favors on his way out of town.

Those kids landing at UCLA, Penn State, West Virginia, UCF, Colorado, etc. were not sticking around with or without Lewis. Half of them quit on the season to save themselves for the portal before Lewis was in talks to leave.

These self-inflicted wounds are killing us. When you’re out-talented you can’t afford to keep shooting yourself in the foot.
I was confused by that call, too. I saw the replay on the stadium video board and couldn't see a face mask on you guys. My best guess is that the Kent player maybe grabbed the face mask, but then quickly let go before it appeared on the playback. My dad says he saw it, but I didn't. I definitely saw our guy (I think it was our running back Johnny Richardson, if memory serves) put a hand toward your defender's face.

Live I didn’t see it, the first replay I didn’t see it, but then the 2nd replay showed the KSU defender with a quick face mask. But the offensive player seemed to grab on much longer but there’s that fine line between a stiff arm and grabbing the mask, I thought he grabbed it. My point was, if you’re going to let that one go they should’ve let the quick snatch by the defender go as well, it’s not like he was only able to make the tackle with the face mask.

Well I'm not saying Burns will be that bad. I'm saying because of the state of the offense, at least in year one, I'm worried we might see Haynes era offensive numbers.

Unfortunately when your best position group is RB but you have 265 lbs. linemen trying to block for them, it’s going to be a long season. The RBs and QBs will be getting crushed out there every week.

Good point. It's naive to think that nobody would have left had Lewis stayed. With the transfer portal and transfer rules, it has come to the point for a mid-major that you almost hope your best players don't get TOO good. And, of course, the key is to try to come close to breaking even by replacing lost players with good players FROM the portal. It's a whole new world out there in the NCAA.

I have no inside information of the sequence of events, but I choose to believe Lewis left because he saw a total rebuild was coming when he saw his stars quiting on the team mid season to preserve their health for the portal. To me that's what makes the most sense for him to leave for a coordinator job instead of waiting for a HC position.

I believe you are right. Not to mention he’s earning much more as an OC and working for a HC that wants him to succeed more than anything as it means his own kid succeeds (QB). They’ll light it up together and have many eyes on them in the process (last nights game seemed like a 2.5 hour infomercial for Coach Prime and Colorado) and then he’ll cash in on a better HC gig than he’d get from here. No brained!
