Apple deal sounded lol on all levels even if he tried to shed it in a good light but failed miserably for convincing me.

I couldn’t take anymore of that yahoo after the Ivy League and Morgantown comments.

I hope that WV makes ASU feel welcome the first time they come to town...perhaps with some burning couches and a 60 pt thrashing.

Unfortunately for WV, they have a mess in bball right now and many predict their football coach will be fired this year but never know.

I have met WV’s president for about 10 minutes when he was Ohio State’s president still when I was a freshman. Not the best impression of Gordon Gee either but for other reasons. I probably wouldn’t like most of these types that make it to be president of these universities if I’m being honest but this guy was ivory tower/country club persona to the core.

Edit: These two clowns need to spend a weekend at the Greenbrier in the beautiful Appalachian mountains and rivers in WV and then compare that to the foothill mountains, wannabe hippie ville of Colorado Springs and the Broadmoor.

My old company takes all the Partners once a year on a really nice trip. Pebble Beach, Jackson Hole, etc. One year we went to the Broadmoor, it was really nice but a bit old. I loved the scenery though. We also went to this Mountain that was about 30 minutes from Mount Airy. I know that's a ways from Morgantown, but still it's in the Appalachians. I loved them both.

I don't expect him to be excited nor happy today. Let him grieve for the conference that he just watched die. He cares about academics as every University President should.

This was helped by their associations with the California schools. He also invested himself deeply into the Pac 12. Everything he worked for is now disintegrating.

USC and UCLA move to the B1G, and the Pac is on shaky ground. ASU sees that the Pac is unsustainable and the B1G isn't calling, even with all of the Midwesterners in the Valley. Meanwhile, U of A is having constructive talks with the B12. U of A gets a landing place in the B12, and ASU is dragged kicking and screaming to the heartland.

Or, here's a guy who left his small town in the Midwest for sunshine in Arizona, only to be dragged back home unwillingly to be with the people he spent a lifetime trying to outdo.

Dr. Crow is eating a lot of crow right now.

I get that he's very disappointed in how things went down with the Pac, but his duty is to ASU, not the Pac. The Pac is just a collection of schools that happens to be particularly bad at hiring a Commissioner. Good thing it wasn't up to Crow to hire the next Big 12 Commissioner, he'd probably have pushed for Larry Scott again.

He didn't just watch it die, he was instrumental in that death. He was a huge Larry Scott supporter, then he tried to drag his school kicking and screaming into a $23m all streaming deal on Apple TV+ with a 2 year opt out. They would have just gone through 2 MORE years of this sitting on pins and needles, and still ended up with nothing on the other side of it other than a new deal with Apple. If he allowed himself to get too attached to the Conference, well, 3 of his old Conference-mates just joined him on the life raft. Pour one out and move on, or retire after 21 years of mostly very good Academic leadership (and not very good Athletic leadership).

Colorado Springs is the home of the Air Force Academy. Not exactly hippie vile.

Was just there recently and it’s an odd mix.

There were protest for marijuana legalization and only reason it’s still only medical from what I was able to gather is because the Air Force is located there with enough active or vets around to vote the hippies down.

It’s an ok town with some cool bars and what not but I got a bad vibe and couldn’t believe the amount of homeless for being a generally expensive area to live. Broadmoor was nice but I like Greenbrier better.

If I’m going to the mountains I want to be in the mountains not the foothills. No interest in ever going back that town/city. Overrated.

Yeah always positives and negatives to each. Broadmoor is nice with cool view/scenery. I was not a fan of Colorado Springs whatsoever. It was like a town split in half on culture stances.

Reminded me of when I went skiing in Utah during Covid and talking with some of the locals they weren’t too happy with all the Cali implants. It was a weird dynamic with two cultures kind of clashing but not sure how it’s going since.

Anywho, back to ASU lol.

Anywho, back to ASU lol.

Utah is the best. My favorite work trip was a summer trip to Deer Valley. Lots of hiking, rafting, etc. Had a funny incident there: One of the guys I was with was named William Farrell. He called and made our reservations for 50 or so of us for dinner one night. We get to the restaurant right on time, and there are 3 SMOKIN HOT young ladies ready to check us in. It seemed odd, until I realized why they were all so anxious to meet us. I thought they were going to demand to see his id when they realized that HE was the William Farrell who made the reservations. The looks of horror and disappointment on their faces were pure trajicomedy.

More importantly, all sorts of "religious right" organizations and military bases are located there.
