Thanks. You just made me spit my coffee across the living room, and now my wife is pissed.

Yeah that was great. Points

RE: What do you consider success for the AAC?
My answer is a different one but achieving it will mean the AAC probably achieved many or most of the others: the American must maintain its position as at least the No. 6 conference in terms of earning power. Maintaining this position is also crucial to the types of scheduling that helps programs grow. Lose that position and you start losing the ability to get quality home and homes, start seeing erosion of donor and sponsor dollars, etc ….all the things that hurt C-USA.

Your comment made me scratch my head, until I remembered that you've been a Memphis fan for around 70 years. 04-jawdrop I think that's incredible. and I hope you keep enjoying the gravy for many years to come. 04-cheers

Thanks, man. Yep. I turn 76 next month, and I attended my first Tigers games (football and basketball) when I was 5 years old.

When you get to be my age, you are thankful for the small things, and don't let anything in sports or on a message board determine your mood.

I just want to have fun. 04-cheers

We're going to have at least 3 teams in the NCAA tournament next year, in fact I'd predict 4. Someone just needs to have a special year in football and be a part of the conversation. Of course the pirates finally need to win it all in baseball smh.

Don't let him fool ya. He's still full of piss and vinegar. Works pretty much non stop and sleeps about 4 hours a day. I don't know how he does it.

Bourbon and BBQ. And lots of fun road trips.

Without looking at all the replies so far, I would defer to the senior members of the AAC for the answer to the query. I also think that a distinction should be made between what could be considered success in the next couple years versus five or more years from now.

RE: What do you consider success for the AAC?
The top of this conference is there already.

Tulane, UTSA, UNT, and SMU should all have a shot at the football title and thus compete for a NY6 slot.

UAB, UNT, FAU, Tulane and Memphis should be able to compete with anyone in basketball.

However if this conference is to improve it's the bottom of the league that needs to step up. This starts with scheduling, 300+ strength of schedules shouldn't be a thing in the AAC but ECU is well on their way to yet another NET killing schedule. Go on the road if you have to, anything to improve that NET. Aresco can help out here by working with ESPN to set up a basketball challenge with a peer conference. Nobody is expecting an AAC/ACC or AAC/Big East challenge, but certainly we can set one up with the A-10 or MWC (both of which are multi bid leagues year in and year out).

Per ESPN Match Predictor, Memphis, thanks partly to a favorable football schedule, is currently favored in 10 of its 12 games, several by large percentages.

We skip UTSA and ECU, and Tulane and SMU are both home games for us. One of the two games where we are the dog is Missouri, so it's feasible we could finish 7-1 or so in the AAC.

Not saying we will, but to assume Memphis will be far down the ladder this year might be a bit premature.

In basketball, after signing Jordan Brown, I think we will have the best team, or at least not worse than second. JMO. And if we somehow get DeAndre Williams and/or Jahvon Quinerly, too, well...

Curious...why did you leave Memphis out of the top 4 in football? They had Tulane first at 9-2, Memphis at 8-3 in a preseason poll posted here somewhere.

Why?

What does success look like in the next couple of years vs five or more years from now?

ESPN ranks us: Pretty much a coin toss between SMU, UTSA, Memphis.

Tulane-37
SMU-55
UTSA-60
Memphis-61
N. Texas-84

ESPN CFB Rankings

UCF-39
Cincy-43
Houston-51

If Tulane can win the NY6, then anyone from this conference can do it. We have the horses, we just need to make sure not to destroy our own frontrunners like the Sun Belt does.
