Does Arizona go in alone if the money is decent with the new PAC10 contract?

I think so. They're ready to leave ASU behind.

That would put them on a major island though. I guess geography is not as much of a concern as it used to be but dang, they would be way out there with no conference team even remotely close to them.

wonder if AZ politicians put pressure on them not to. Those two have been in the same conferences since 1931.

RE: Big 12 Expansion Odds
Arizona State is almost twice the size & is basically in Phoenix. Wouldn’t they be the better choice for the Big 12?

Perhaps AZ is interested primarily because of basketball?

I think the difference was because Arizona has indicated more interest in moving to the Big 12 than ASU.

Neither offer a great FB program but AZ offers an elite MBB program which is a primary interest for the B12 plans to split their FB & BB in their next media deal (they believe their #1 MBB programs are undervalued in their current contract). That said, I think they value having a Pacific time zone presence even more & will pursue that before any east interests.

I would say no. A decent enough PAC deal should keep the AZ schools together till the B1G takes more schools.

Isn’t Arizona on its own time zone? We had a work team member based in Phoenix & it was always confusing trying to determine the time difference. Its like MST but no Daylight Savings time…

Yes, AZ doesn't follow DST. That's why I think SDSU will be a target even if AZ comes to the B12. But any further defection from the PAC likely gets SDSU an invite to the PAC & I'm guessing that would be the SDSU preference if money is similar to that offered by the B12. But with or without SDSU , I still think the B12 has a Pacific time zone goal as a primary interest.

Hello All,

Have not posted in quite a while but I'm an AZ fan who also keeps up with Memphis basketball. A lot of speculation in our neck of the woods but here is what we are hearing-

First, we were always told that if either AZ or ASU wanted to change conferences it had to be a package deal. Now we are hearing that may not be the case. so far, no official word on that so who knows.

Phoenix is one of the biggest markets in the country so would be an obvious choice for any of the conferences to want access. Here it Tucson, not so much so I am thinking you are correct, AZ is primarily wanted due to Basketball program.

Personally, I think it would be great to join the Big 12 and also see Memphis get in. Back in Lute's days we had a great home and home with you guys and split 1 win each. If we both joined it would be a monster basketball conference (its pretty stacked without AZ and Memphis but would be even better with us!)

No one here really knows what will happen but most of our fan base does not trust Oregon and Washington because they are openly trying to jump to the Big 10 so they obviously don't care about the rest of us so each school has to do what is best for themselves at this point. Sad, but true.

Anyway, good luck to Memphis and hope we get to play you again soon, would be a great series.

I'm sorry about what happened to Tucson in my latest book. I promise you better days are ahead.
