RE: TNT Tier 1 deal will save the Pac12
It would make sense for Warner/Turner or whatever it's called this week to invest in college sports.
There were rumors of them looking at other leagues in the past few years, but now might not be the time to invest in the PAC.
Either way, this report isn't accurate. College presidents are not equipped to negotiate with a major media company.

Turner does not own TNT anymore. It is now own by Discovry Inc which they said they were looking at sporting events after stop making scripted shows.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bros._Discovery
Warner owns Turner...
Discovery bought them out in a merger. The parent company is Discovery Inc, not Turner.
So you have more than a few facts incorrect.
First there's a difference between Turner Entertainment, and Turner Sports.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turner_Entertainment
Second, Turner apparently still existed as a holding company in Time-Warner after the purchase. As did Turner Sports, and other Turner divisions.
This didn't change (much) until after AT&T bought Warner, and did a Re-Org, including creating a separate division for all News/Sports.
Then later AT&T spun-off Warner, and then Warner merged with Discovery.
So Turner is still owned by them, through the Warner bros. purchase.
As for the actual name of the company, it's:
Warner Bros. Discovery
And as for the "parent" of TNT (and TBS) - the parent is:
Warner Bros. Discovery Networks.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_as...y_Networks
And per the most recent Re-Org, Turner Sports is under:
Warner Bros. Discovery Sports
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warner_Bro...ery_Sports
Anyway, I'm not a corporate lawyer, and have not seen the actual corporate documents, and I doubt that you have either, so I think we can leave this nonsense there.
Is Warner Bros. Discovery interested in sports? Sure.
Are they trying to get them cheaply? Apparently - For example, they've apparently already told the NBA they expect to be changing up their next deal.
Will they overpay for the PAC? Incredibly unlikely.
They may not be able to renew the NBA, but get the PAC 12 at $40 million per school could be way cheaper than the NBA right now.

The NBA has value because people watch it.
Why would this company overpay for PAC media rights compared to their current competitors in a market where the sports rights have value, but are diminishing? Apple arguably has to spend more because their distribution model is entirely different from linear cable.

The NBA is a worldwide brand that multiple WBD brands would want to be tied to. The P12 has a much smaller base of interest.

RE: TNT Tier 1 deal will save the Pac12
The PAC just needs to get some d@mn deal options on the table so we can end the speculation on the conference's demise.
I sincerely hope 4/15 is a real deadline and not another "two weeks" meme but I suspect that Kliavkoff's charade will continue to drag out till the end of summer and then eventually we will see more realignment.

I'm hoping that deadline is legit too. I just can't see the Pac 10 schools waiting too much longer. GK seems to think he's going to find a bunch of money in the couch cushions.
