Why not count records from freshman games played when they weren't eligible for varsity play as a start?

Maravich is still unchallenged for points per game.

No need to manipulate things.

At least now that Davis is done won't have to worry about it.

Yeah, I think this situation could arise again.

I just read today about a Miami Tight End who has just been granted a *ninth* year of eligibility.

There is IMO a certain class of athlete, good college player but not good enough for the NFL or NBA, who will linger around as long as possible, as college athletics is a "free ride" plus now NIL money that could well be better than any option they have outside of the campus.

We might see hoops and football players playing 8, 9, 10 years in college, having whole careers in college. I've long thought that NCAA limits on eligibility might be vulnerable in court, and with NIL there is now an incentive to challenge it.

I did not know Detroit finished 14-19 (thanks, stever20, for posting). Davis has no argument.

"Where is the humility", indeed. Basketball is a team sport. Davis is complaining that his losing team wasn't invited for the sole purpose of giving him yet another opportunity to cheat Pete Maravich out of a record that represents a far greater achievement than his own. If I had felt any sense of disappointment that Davis fell short of the record before this, I don't any longer.

How was he going to "cheat" to get the record? He's a college kid, he followed the rules that were in place during his time in school. Many sports records are broken by people who had more games in which to pile up the stats. This particular situation felt a bit egregious just b/c it was 5 seasons for him instead of 3 for Maravich, but there was no "cheating" or attempted circumvention of the rules here.

As far as Mercy getting kept out of the CBI, I think they screwed up. Ratings would have been very good for the record-breaking game.

Ratings on Flo Sports? Give me a ******* break. Glad that teams didn't want to be a part of it if Detroit was going to be a part of it. And him complaining about selfish people? Look in the mirror pal.

Why can't a collection of colleges come up with reasonable rules to govern their Sports? Do you think it's reasonable to let 30 year olds compete with 18 year olds? Clearly, they don't, and it will be tough to convince any court anywhere that this is fair. That's why the NFL mandates 3 years after high school, most kids' bodies just aren't fully developed yet as freshmen in college. Taking out the consideration for how long a kid "should" be in college, this is a safety issue and will be treated as such.

Someone like this...ok, I can see that. 4 years out with various ankle and achilles injuries, and he only started 1 season. Clearly, he's not very good, and his development was circumvented by his injury history. But letting a star LB play 8, 9, or 10 years just b/c he wants to keep getting NIL? No way that happens.
