I think shaking up the starting lineup was a good idea, although Claire just could not buy a basket. She helped out in other ways, though. I though Kobe played very well, and I was amused at how badly the South Alabama announcers mangled her name. I mean really, how hard is it to say King-Hawea? At least they managed "Kozlova" and didn't attempt her first name or nickname, which probably would have choked them! (Perhaps Coach should slip them a pronunciation guide when we go visiting? I remember the CAA announcers mangling Eleanore's name every time too.) It was a nice win over the cellar dwellers. I had watched the GA Southern/GA State game before ours, and GA Southern is going to be hard to beat at home. Everyone better be healthy and ready for that one.

I am pretty sure the SIDs provide pronounciation guides to the opposing teams well in advance. I think I have seen them in some programs. The announcers might need to swallow some pride and use them for a change!

At the Hampton game we were at in December the announcer kept calling the JMU team the JMU Mustangs. All the Dukes fans kept screaming at him that JMU is the Dukes!! Finally corrected it in the second half.

I got a hold of one of the roster sheets that you see at most games and on top the Dukes were identified as the JMU Mustangs. Think what happened is that someone goofed up and thought Hampton was playing SMU who are the Mustangs. Was sort of funny and then annoying when the fans kept yelling at the PA guy and he did not do anything to correct it until someone got to him at half time. So info provided to the announcers can be messed up also.

I seem to recall that years ago when the wife and I first started following the WBB team the roster sheet had a pronunciation guide for some of the more challenging names. With everything going digital these days do not know if they still do that. As O to P mentioned above I recall with some laughter some of the away games announcers mangling Eleanore M (not going to try and spell it) name!!!! I used to refer to her as Scrabble as her last name was at least a triple word score!!

In a recent men’s game (I think is was GSU) the TV guy kept calling the Dukes the “Monarchs”…the TV graphic also identified JMU as the Monarches.

Obviously there’s room for improvement in JMU’s first year of SBC competition. But “Mustangs”? Where in the world would that come from?

Yeah ya gotta wonder how stuff like this continues to happen!!
