Lewis is a Wisconsin alum and when he couldn't get a sniff for their job he may have realized being HC at Kent wasn't going to get him where he wants to go.

He did interview for head job at Cincinnati according to Football Scoop but obviously did not get it.

He was in for the Cincy job and in the thick of it for the Louisville job had he stuck around to find out. He doubled his salary, increased his resources and exposure and can still cash in in the near future.

It was probably unlikely that he would get offered a better head coaching job at Cincy or Louisville based on the season KSU just had.

KSU was expected to compete with Miami for a division title and MACC appearance. Instead they finished 5th in their division and had a losing record.

Well, he’s currently Maryland’s OC and is most likely extraordinarily rich.

That’s still a better gig than CMU.

But he's not a head coach. Some people place an inherent value on calling the shots, others like Enos might be more content to stay as a coordinator especially with the difference in salary.

I just looked up Dan Enos. He appears to be a guy who goes wherever the wind blows that day. He is only with a school for one or two years and then moves on. CMU was the longest time he stayed in one spot.

I think he is also a guy who saw the writing on the wall. He wasn't able to achieve the same type of success of his predecessor and decided to move on before he got fired.
