Very good road win for the Tribe. Riley and Wagner are a two headed monster! Fun team to watch. They will do far better than preseason 7th in the CAA.

Big game at ODU Tuesday night.

This was a huge win for the Women! I don't have ESPN+ so I couldn't watch it but when I turned on Live Stats there were only 20+ seconds left in regulation. The Tribe was down 2 and there was a timeout and I was thinking "not too bad". Then while waiting for play to resume I saw that the Tribe was 0-7 in the last 2:42 and 2-14 in the last 7:00, and had blown a 10-point lead. Uh oh. However, not to worry, Riley Casey sank one to go to OT and the Tribe dominated the extra session. The Madison Magee trey was huge and the Tribe's two best FT shooters (Casey and Sydney Wagner, neither of whom had shot a FT all game) calmly sank 2 each to seal it.

The reason the win is huge is not because of the W but rather because the Tribe lost a 10-point lead, got back up off the mat to tie the game, and then counterpunched to get the win. You learn a lot from games like that, things that you can use going forward when the situation comes up again.

I'm still not sure what to think of the Men's team and the season that they will have but I am definitely pumped at the prospects for the Women's team!

I followed the play-by-play in real time on my computer...so I didn't see the game but I could tell that it was ugly, ugly, ugly. The score was 59-43 and the Tribe shot horribly (25.5%, 23.1%, 76.2%). Tribe had 20 turnovers to ODU's 18. Tribe had 22 fouls to ODU's 18. Far, far too many fouls called in this game. The impression I got was that this was one of those games where the officials thought that all the fans (a great crowd, 2219) came to see them and not the teams. Worst stat was the rebounding discrepancy. On the Tribe end of the court W&M got 8 offensive rebounds while ODU got 28 defensive rebounds. Domination. On the ODU end of the court W&M got 24 defensive rebounds ...but ODU got almost as many offensive rebounds (19). Again, domination on the boards. Coach E said before the season that if the Tribe can hold down turnovers and rebound that we could be in every game. We didn't do either of those well tonight and so, no, we weren't in this game after halftime.

One stat that you don't see every day for the winning team (by 16 points, no less) is that ODU shot only 9-24 (37.5%) from the free throw line. The winning bulge would have plumply exceeded 20 points if they had shot even as low as 67%.

Tribe pulled out a win today in a game they looked destined to lose...until the final minutes. Sydney Wagner had a poor game but did sink some crucial free throws near the end. Some others missed a few FTs giving Army a chance to tie at the end but Bre Bellamy blocked the desperation buzzer beater.

Tribe took 3 of 4 against Army/Navy Men’s/Women’s. Take on Richmond next, at Kaplan.

Dani McTeer better return from injury soon or she won’t have a job. Rebekah Frisby-Smith and Caitlyn Wingertzahn have both been playing well.
