RE: SFA looking for system home
Is SFASU going to be rebranded UTSFA?
Sounds more impressive and gets to benefit from the prestige of UT.

UT-Nacogdoches has a real sense of charm also would UT-Austin be ok with another UT school with Austin in their name?

RE: SFA looking for system home
Happy to report there will be no name change. Alumni and regents were staunchly opposed, and rightly so. "SFA", "Tarleton", "Sam", "UTA" are the terms used in Texas, by Texans. Nobody needs to go messing around with that. One Tarleton alumn/lawmaker went so far as to have a state law that prevents Tarleton from ever being changed to "Texas A&M-Stephenville". Ever! Although I do think Its time for Tarleton and SFA to drop "state" from its name.

Glad Tarleton was able to stand their ground. Maybe it had to do with being named after someone, but West Texas A&M is at least close to what it was. Wish we could go back on some of the other schools. East Texas State sounds way better than Texas A&M-Commerce, for example.

East Texas A&M was right there for the taking.
Same with University of Texas Western instead of UTEP.

Personally, I would rather have a city in my school’s name than be a directional school.
University of Texas Arlington > North Texas Agriculture College
University of Texas El Paso > Texas Western University
Texas A&M Commerce > East Texas State University

Sure, if you're Houston or Dallas or a similarly well known town. Commerce? I bet you atleast 1/3rd of Texans think that's like Agriculture & Mechanics, or A&I. Folks who don't know Commerce is a town probably think that it's talking about the business activity.

My ex-wife was a TAMC alum. If you go to a Commerce football game, you will still see East Texas shirts and jersey's worn in the crowd.

Went to grad school there when it was East Texas State. Most don't remember but they have a couple of NFL Alums tied to East Texas State. I personally hate TAMU-Commerce. Even if the school isn't as East Texas as UT Tyler or SFA. They did have a satellite in Texarkana which has become TAMU-Texarkana.

actually uta was Arlington State before. I graduated from UTA and also attended Texas A&I..most A&I folks I know wish it hadnt changed names. I would think East Texas State or West Texas State sounds better to most of their alums. in the old days those schools had their own identity.

RE: SFA looking for system home
I hope SFA gets to keep same name regardless of who it chooses. UT has the most money and would probably help it the most, A&M is strict and stingy and generally does not like to promote it system schools in anything, and joining Tech is just worthless in academics and sports, you might as well drop to NAIA and add CC to the end of your name. One important aspect of the UT vs AM system is that, at the undergrad level, the AM system is far more strict with grades and requirements. for most BA's in the UT System for example, you would only need 8 hours (2 courses) in a foreign language, where AM requires 14 hours (4 courses) ( the latter 2 not having labs). Also, the UT system has a +- grading system to where, for example, if you get a 85 or better in a course, you get a 3.5, where as in the AM system you get an 89.9 you get a 3.0. This can make a huge difference in your final GPA. I have had this bite me in the back side multiple times. I had 3 classes at Tarleton where I got an 89.5+ and still got a 3.0 for the class. My Int Bus Law prof low balled me on grades just because he was/is a monumental dick face. But I am not bitter

If your first sentence was a reference to my post, UTA was at one time called North Texas Agriculture College and we’re big rivals with John Tarleton Agriculture College.

My prediction is Stephen F. Austin will accept an invite to C-USA sometime in late 2024. The UT financial backing along with geographical "fit" and rivalry with SHSU will be plenty to get the bid.

Curious....considering all UT system schools have orange as one of its official school colors, anybody know if SFA is gonna keep its name AND its colors? Going purple and orange?

I swear IlliterateTexan and SamuelFromSHST are the exact same person. If you hid their name/avatar and read one of their posts, you couldn't tell the difference. It's so weird seeing them fight with each other. I picture a little Imp looking in the mirror and threatening itself with a balled up fist...
