For those suggesting Big 12 invites SDSU, did you see all the empty seats for the first game in their new stadium?

I know it was very hot for San Diego, but 91 degrees (only 42% humidity) is par for the course in much of the country for opening weekend. It was still otherwise beautiful weather, a PAC-12 opponent, and a brand new stadium. Very disappointing and more like what I'd expect USF's first home game in their new stadium (if it even happens) to look like.

I personally don't want to add anymore teams from G5 leagues. The only P5 level programs that were stuck in G5 leagues (or independent) are joining the conference next year. I don't think there are anymore schools that are at the level of the four joining us next year, SDSU included.
Just my opinion.

That is hot and humid for San Diego. But, it illustrates the fair-weather fan problem in much of the West.
On a similar note, UCLA's stadium was empty. I think announced attendance was around 27K or so, but it looked like literally half of that on TV.

That explains a lot. Reminds me of the first game at the Bounce House for UCF when there were no water fountains and similarly, little to no shade all on hot metal bleachers.

This is like, your second thread on SDSU.
Do you have something against them? I don't even think about SDSU.

He more than likely just doesn't want them to be added to the Big 12. There is a large contingent of fans who feel schools like San Diego St and Boise St would be good adds.

It was 100 degrees with 67% humidity. It was the hottest temperature sdsu or the Chargers ever played in San Diego and that doesn’t factor in the humidity element. The temperature on the field was 120 and that’s with natural grass. The game was technically a sellout but lots of people left early and you can see videos of all the people who stayed in the shaded areas instead of their seats. I’m from Arizona but was at the game and in my seats the entire time. I have never been as hot in my entire life as I was on Saturday. People were passing out and on stretchers all over the place.

You need to spend some time on the Gulf Coast to realize what high humidity and temperatures are really like. ;-)
It is a great-looking stadium. Hopefully, you guys get some traditional weather soon.

I don't have a problem with SDSU being an addition. They are more of an investment though.

Yes, we had been having a rather mild summer save for the humidity. But it was definitely unseasonably hot that day. At midnight it was still 90 degrees and I am some 3 miles east of the stadium overlooking the river.

A bad investment!
Open a new stadium and few come. Tickets should have been sold long before the weather forecast was known.

More than one article reported the game as a sellout.

The game was a sellout. The fans just didn't make it to/stay in their seats because of the heat.

I actually have some sympathy here for the SDSU fans. I saw the TicTok video that was making the rounds about everyone hiding under the stadium because of the heat.
We just went through 2 1/2 months of 100+ degree temps with crazy humidity here in Texas over the summer. I wouldn't want to sit in a stadium with no shade either in those conditions.
The heat really does play a factor - I know they were really worried about the heat in Austin when Fox initially scheduled the UT/Alabama game for the noon kickoff. Luckily for the athletes it looks like tomorrow will have reasonable weather for this time of year.
