I think this is indicative of the conflict that George Friedman describes between elite experts and common sense. Walker doesn’t fit well with the elite expert mold, but his accomplishments speak well to the common sense side.

I have the academic chops to compete with the elite experts (bachelor’s and master’s degrees from a national top-20 university, plus doctorate), but I find the common sense side far more appealing.

You say that as if the Georgia GOP had a stronger/better alternative waiting in the wings. What evidence is there to support that idea? What evidence is there that Warnock voters would change their mind and vote GOP if GOP had a different nominee?
