RE: Eastern Michigan vs Eastern Kentucky
Talking of S&C, despite what folks say I think LDR (long distance running) is good for FB player. Just the ability to run 5Ks mean very good endurance and fitness. I don't believe linemen who run 40 yard runs (because in the game they may run 10 or 20 yards, tops) don't build up the endurance which only comes from running say 20 or 25 minutes.
In my younger day (August 1997), I ran a 10K race on a day during which Washington tied an all time high of 106. I tell you, if a CFB player can do that, he will not wear down in the 4th quarter of a game with the temps in the 80s.
I'd go out on a h.s. track in the middle of the day during summer and run. If someone has built good endurance they can run in 10 degrees or a 100 degrees (I've done both).

I know they were all (linemen included) running the stairs at the stadium at least once a week during the summer workouts.

I had the chance to get there for about the last 45 minutes of practice and was very impressed with what I saw. I also had a chance to chat with some of the players and coaches after the practice.
The first thing I noticed overall was how quick and smooth the team appeared on the field. These guys as a whole have dropped a good deal of excess weight while building strength and agility and it shows. They look big and strong on the field and appear to move so much better than any Eagles team I've seen since Alex has been here. The RB's were coming out of the backfield with speed and agility, and the O-Line was opening holes I could run through. It looks like they could have a decent running game this year.
I was really impressed with what I saw from Taylor Powell. 30-40 yard passes into the endzone dropping into receivers' hands with perfect touch! Good scrambling and throwing accurately on the run. And good news for some on this list...targeting of the TE's for 10-15 yard pops. Overall quite impressive!
Afterward, the coaches and the players seemed really fired up about how the team is coming together this year. One common thread was the lack of any serious injuries to the two-deeps during camp. The coaches were attributing that to the new strength and conditioning coach/program. They repeatedly commented about how good shape the team is in overall.
Granted I only saw a small portion of the practice and everything I saw was in practice mode against the scout team, but I am really fired up by what I saw. I can't wait until Friday!
Looks like the new S&C coach Deonte Mack who came over from Akron in January 2022 knows his stuff.

I might be wrong on aerobic exercise for FB players but I would like to see it tried out with tennis players. Tennis is perceived as essentially a bunch of anaerobic events (each point) but in many respects it is more like running even though there are brief rests (between serves).
I would perceive tennis is like training for an one hour run.
BTW, stairs are good because they are a 'longer' exercise running for a number of minutes.

Cid- thanks for the inside scouting report. I’m fired up too and look for EMU to be improved offensively and defensively! It would be great if we could average 160 rushing yds on offense and be a top tier MAC school on stopping the run!
Let’s go Eagles!

I'm going to my neighborhood casino this week and put a few on EMU to win the MACC. Just not betting my lunch money, though.

I expect we'll see the game note (depth chart) and see an announcement about #2 today.

Jake Donnellon's career at EMU appears to be over. He came back from an injury in the first game last year. Best wishes to him.
Yeah...I chatted with Jake for a while last night after practice. He is on crutches with a full-leg wrap/brace on. His surgery went well, but he has a great deal of recovery to go. Once he is off the crutches, he hopes to spend time helping coach up the Scout team O-line. He will still be a full member of the team through this year.
He is understandably disappointed about missing this year, but acknowledges the time he had playing for the Eagles and is grateful for the opportunities he had in Ypsilanti. Even injured, it is apparent from the way his teammates treat him that he is still a leader on this team.

Uh.....Chase Kline is my new favorite player all time defensively and he hasn't played a down. FINALLY, we have a linebacker that has nuts and wants to elevate. These are guys that get us past the middle. I love it. I watched our highlights on YouTube last night verse Toledo and nearly vomited watching our linebackers play against Koback. At one point I thought our guys were afraid.
This guy gets it and most importantly will elevate the play of the other guys in that room.
The fact that Sparacio and Kline are starting and that Kline is named captain is great but also speaks volumes of the ineptitude of that room. Glad we have them
Let's make a run at it!

C.C. is the most positive person I 'know.' Very good video. I learned a lot.
We are going to have fun defending their QB who can apparently do it all.

My wife and I actually drove through Richmond this past weekend and actually drove by EKU's stadium. Looks like a nice university from the brief bit that we drove through. We went from where we live in Louisville to Frankfort/Lexington and went over to Buc-ees which is just an absurdly set up gas station/convenience store. My feeling is that Richmond itself wasn't too affected. The worst of the flooding was really far Eastern Kentucky going towards West Virginia and Virginia.
You can see a map of the amount of rain that they got over in Hazard, etc at: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:NWS_K...loods.jpg.
It's absolutely gut wrenching to see the photos of the flooding and you really feel for all of those affected.
The weather in Kentucky has been crazy of recent. We had a tornado last May do some pretty significant damage probably within a mile of where we live in Louisville as well.

EKU is in Richmond, KY, approximately 20 miles south of Lexington, in the central part of the state. Many people think it is in the eastern Kentucky mountains because of the name. Best explanation, when both EKU and WKU were established, if you draw a line in the middle of the state, Western Ky U was in the west, although not that far west and EKU was in the eastern part, but again not that far east. Both the western Kentucky and eastern Kentucky areas, have Universities that do meet that criteria (Morehead State in eastern Ky, and Murray State, western KY). Confusing, but consider that this was done many years ago, before a "directional name" of Universities had a negative connotation.
Richmond was not impacted by the flooding. The flooding was in eastern and south eastern Kentucky. It was devastating for those folks, and I am sure some of our students were affected. EKU football hosted some eastern KY high schools football teams on campus for football camp, housing and feeding them. Very sad for that part of the state and their people.
