It is a bit strange though that the MAC champion gets paired against the 4th best team in the Sun Belt. I think we should have at least got a crack at a G5 conf champion.

LOL I got laughed off that board for saying we’d lose by 2 scores but believe NIU believes in themselves and are coming for the W. Probably the most delusional bunch I’ve ever come across.

I’m cautiously optimistic about this game. Wish we had a few more weeks to practice and heal up (miss Richie specifically) but otherwise happy with the matchup.
As we all know based on Carey coached teams, bowl outcomes are usually based on who’s more motivated. CC was in a big matchup last year in a #14 vs #17 matchup with Liberty. This year they’re going back to the same Cure Bowl vs a MAC opponent without anything to really prove. On the flip side, our young pups will likely practice hard, and hopefully come in with a business like mentality coupled with this new found addiction to success and belief in themselves.
I’m concerned CCs Dline could be more stout than our MAC foes and stunt our plans to control the clock with the run game, but really don’t have anything to base that on besides the belief that SB defensive lines seem to be a small step up from the MAC. I really do hope we punch them in the face and beat the ****-a-doodle-doo out of them!

I agree, very happy with this bowl. The Cure bowl benefits a great cause.
Coastal Carolina looks like a good team and our defense will have their hands full again but I trust they will be prepared for this one too.
Florida is a hub for football players (and athletic development) in the country and it is always great for NIU to make more friends there. Great atmosphere in Orlando, FL for the team to play a bowl game!

No, looks like he (Grayson McCall) came back for their last game of the season. Coastal's last game was on Nov. 26 vs. South Alabama. So I'm sure with 3 weeks off he will be more than healthy if he wasn't fully healthy in their last game.

Who's going to Disney World?
Universal studios is better. Plus have great night life right outside the park. Also closer to stadium.
I always love seeing these ridiculously cocky posts from delusional fans upset about playing MAC teams. Did they forget Coastal Carolina was in the mighty Big South just a few years ago? Hell, half of the teams in the Sun Belt were FCS while NIU was playing in a BCS bowl game. This isn't meant as disrespect for Coastal Carolina or the Sun Belt either. I like this matchup for the Huskies and am excited for the game.

I for one enjoy being part of a smaller program. As a fan we can get pretty close to the team and really understand the goings on. We knew the Huskies were going to be better than everyone thought. GT fans felt like they got the bait and switch from an overly optimistic staff and had far less “reality” on what to expect week 1. That victory was top 5 all time satisfying for me!

Please don't embarrass us with posts like this. You're not much of a college football fan if you haven't heard of Coastal Carolina!
Last year Coastal Carolina was a media darling heading into a match-up of unbeaten teams when Brigham Young (then 9-0) visited the Chanticleers (9-0). Two prospective NFL-calibre quarterbacks engaged in a shootout battle that Coastal 22-17. They then beat Troy to finish 11-0 and that helped raise talk about playoff expansion so that an undefeated G5 program could at least have a shot. (And no, I'm not saying they deserved to be considered like Boise or Cincinnati this year.)
Much to their disappointment, they got Liberty in the 2020 Cure Bowl and between mistakes and bad officiating, they lost 37-34 in overtime.
They are located in Conway, SC, and started the year beating The Citadel (located in Charleston which makes them an in-state foe ala us playing ISU, WIU, SIU, etc.). They got to host Kansas and thumped the Jayhawks 49-22 before going to Buffalo for a 28-25 road win. Apparently you don't realize the Sun Belt is generally rated ahead of or on a par with the MAC. You do realize we had two losses in the MAC and yes, they had two losses in the SBC, but the bottom line is that they are league champs just like us. Considering they're seven hours from Orlanda via I-95, chances are good they're fans will outnumber us. It's time Huskie fans start remembering lessons from coaches like John McDougal, Joe Novak, Brian Hammel, Jerry Kill, etc. Respect your opponent; if you put them down then you have lessened the value of a win, and should you lose, then you've made yourself look like a fool.

I would argue the opposite! I watched the MACC game from my RV at Fort Wilderness.

I don't think so. Coastal had a great couple years. It's a good matchup.
I mean, they have 10 wins and were ranked a lot of this season. It's not bad.
