RE: AAC Awards
Crazy that Pierce didn't make 1st team, but that's a hell of a list. 12/22 on the first team are Bearcats, every coach agreed that Sauce was the DPOY despite most not even testing him all season...talk about owning the conference from a talent perspective.

Makes sense. These coaches had to gameplan to avoid him. They are the people that really understand how great he is. Hard for national guys looking at stats and not watching every snap for what Sauce is doing.

Oh, for sure...my vote for our conference player of the year this season was a DLman who didn't even get a tackle against us. We tripled him the whole game to try to contain him.

RE: AAC Awards
Metz made the 1st team, wasn’t a starter for the first several games and then lost his starting job the last couple of weeks. Lol

I think he may have been hurt for a game or two here at the end.

I was told McConnel earned the job back after his injury healed. Metz wasn’t very good his last 2 games.

I would think so.

Is it a stretch to suggest Sauce is the greatest defensive player ever for UC? He's an amazing stopper who just seems to keep getting better, if that's even possible. I hope he's a first round pick and enjoys a long, healthy NFL career.

Not at all...as far as positional talent, I think there's really only one who is remotely close on the defensive side of the ball at the moment, Trent Cole (who I think was a more skilled player than Barwin at DE and had the added benefit of being able to bump down and wreck on the interior too). You could argue Mickens pre-knee injury...I wish we had some NFL tape to review in his case. Outside of those 2-3 players, I really don't think anyone is close. There certainly has been a player as individually dominant as Sauce, that's for sure.

I thought Peek was a better college player than Cole but I get the Cole argument (Who was exceptional in his own right and you're right his ability to play inside and outside was a huge part of it). I also think Peek is the kind of guy that could have thrived in a more flexible NFL in a Von Miller type role, but really teams at that time were 3-4 or 4-3 and he wasn't a great overall fit.

But I'd say it's perfectly reasonable to say Sauce is the best defensive player we've had (at least in my lifetime).

When ECU threw at Sauce on the first drive last week and he leisurely swatted it away, my buddy and I both turned to each and said "what are they thinking throwing at Sauce?"

Nakamura in that group maybe? Or maybe he wasn't all that skilled, but the guy was intense! Loved watching him play.

I still remember Nakamura putting a hit on forskiner WR coming across the middle. The guys grandmother felt the hit.

Rook was one of my favorite players in the 00s, but I think even he would probably admit he isn't close to the level of guys like Cole, Peek, Sauce, etc. Great player, played with passion and hit like he wanted to get an NIL deal from Nyquil.

Hasn't he been splitting snaps with Van Fossen? That had to kill his chances with this. I also can't believe Metz ended up on the first team , he isn't even starting anymore lol. Good for him

On the AAC site there was 1st, 2nd and HM. Thus no 3rd team. Hard to be on a team that does not exist.

Now logically HM is like #3 so I guess Pace made that designation.
