I was on the fence on this one until this post.

But now I gotta pull for SMU.

Cuz, I’m from the “Old School”.

And I love my privates.

The question is can our d-line dominate SMU's o-line and can our Front 7 sack Mordecai like they've sacked every bbn other qb they bbn played against?

So bad play has nothing to do with good defense by ECU? Just curious. You give no credit to ECU, you just make it sound like Houston had a bad day like they didn’t have their “A” game when they played the Pirates.

Everyone who plays us has an off game apparently.

It's funny we owned the record against most teams coming into the AAC. We make a bad hire and everyone's got a case of amnesia.

It’s amazing coming off of a loss you feel nows the time to gloat

I don't think you understand what gloating is. It's okay. They have courses for people like you.

Bear Catlett, Be careful what you wish for. SMU will give you a game and threaten your undefeated season.

Yeah, sure. Just try not to lose prior to that.

I felt good about Houston's chances but the way we played ECU and let them hang. now, not so much.

however, it was just back off of a bye week so they may have needed to knock out some rust. it will be interesting to watch if Houston actually improved or they just look good beating chumps. time will tell.

It's hard to gauge the Coogs this season. Flashes of brilliance followed up with baffling dumbness... sometimes happening on consecutive plays...

They've shown enough of the brilliance to win against SMU, the question is can the brilliance outnumber the dumbness?

Every team matches up differently with all the other teams on the schedules. To say that we'll get thumped by SMU because we struggled against ECU is the easy out for those that don't understand matchups, but thank goodness we actually play the games instead of just going off predictions.

I beleive the Coogs will be UP for this game, it's a home game, and it will be exciting, and it may end up being a close game, but I believe the Coogs will prevail.

04-cheers

I believe Houston has the best team but can they put it all together for a whole game? Not sure

I think Houston does enough to get it done. If I was Cincy I would rather play SMU than Houston. SMU you know what you will get and it will be a tough out but one Cincy can take on. Houston you just are not sure what you will get and if they come 100%, I think they can surprise a Cincy team.

Disagree with the last point. ESPN has already been showing love to UC and the narrative is totally different than with UCF or even to some degree UH a few years ago.

In all their graphics they show UC with a 60%+ chance to make the playoff.

When it was UCF they just ignored it or flashed a SOS ranking next to UCF while dismissing them completely.

This year with no clear top 4 and UC undefeated with a win over ND they are who espn wants in. And I think the CFP committee will reflect that should UC remain undefeated

But yeah I agree SMU likely wins this weekend I’m just not sold on Dana to win any significant game yet especially when tune leaves such a bad taste from all the losses and interceptions the last few years.

A few wins vs Tulsa Tulane ECU Navy Rice and Grambling doesn’t fix that.

After SMU, Houston will be favored by

10-14 points over Memphis and @USF
17-21 points over @Temple
27-31 points over @UConn

In other words, heavily favored to finish 11-1 if we can manage a win Saturday night.

That Saturday SMU game will be a tough hill to climb. We really havent played anyone anywhere near that tough so far. We barely escaped with a win vs an ECU team that entered the game 3-3. Up until this week I was at least feeling like we saw some improvement each week. This last week I didnt see that. Was the shaky Houston play simply a result of the 5 and half hour weather delay after a 16 day layoff? Maybe. Or---maybe thats just what we look like when we play against a .500 or better team. We will find out Saturday.

You most likely won't sack Mordecai very much if at all, but you might force him into making a late throw or two and there's where you'll get your turnovers from. He's accurate, efficient and makes good decisions but he hesitates a little - gets us into trouble then. But our O-line is strong on pass blocking, it's short yardage run situations that scare me. Genuinely don't think you'll get 4 TO's off of us, though.

We'll have Bentley and Kerley back, which will be huge. We've been without them the last two games and still managed strong wins, which is encouraging.

How's Tune's deep ball been lately? Biggest concern for me is the DB's ability to guard the deep ball. If Tune gets hot on this it could be a long night for us, but we've got a decent pass rush and the LB's are strong and from what I can Tune gets erratic when pressured.

I think we win this one, but I am concerned.

SMU 41
UH 31

Houston has played no one even remotely as talented as this year’s UC team. Houston’s loss was to an ordinary Texas Tech team that was so mediocre that it has just fired its head coach. SMU has some offensive weapons who are capable of challenging the Bearcat defense. Houston? Not so much. UC beating SMU twice over a three week span would be difficult.

So...Sonny's alma mater fires their 5-3 HC midseason, presumably so they can get a head start on finding a new guy. I wonder where they will start? 07-coffee3

lulz.

I remember that game. It wasn't like Pardee had the first stringers in there, they were just running their offense.

Anyhow, with all the cheating that went on in the SWC in those days, it seems a little disingenuous that any coach would gripe about something like running up the score.

Those were different times... doubt you'll ever see scores like that again. Maybe 95 points combined... lol
