That is a nice deal, one thing I liked about VT is they always play their in-state teams (sometimes to their determent as the have lost their last matchups with each of JMU, ODU, and Liberty IIRC, and were too close for comfort this year against the Richmond Spiders.

When we beat them, we all assumed they would pull a UVA and never play us again. For a while that really looked like the case and their AD made some comments implying that was the case, but they changed their tune and we're scheduled to play in Blacksburg in 2025. Hopefully that game doesn't get scrapped with the move, and above that hopefully we can get them to Harrisonburg before long.

I knew so many Hokie fans at the time who were on suicide watch when you became the second FCS team to beat a ranked FBS team. I tried talking them down by pointing out how Michigan ended '07 having a decent enough season.

Haha, VT went on to go undefeated in the ACC and JMU had an extremely disappointing season... But at least we were the ACC champions even if we weren't the CAA champions.

I had forgotten they ended up being really good, but now that you mention it, I remember saying "told you so" to one of my Hokie friends.

RE: 2023 Schedules
2024 is more interesting for us. The shortest driving distance from Boone to each opponent:

East Tennessee State: 53 miles
Clemson: 169 miles
Liberty: 211 miles
Marshall: 247 miles
James Madison: 261 miles
Coastal Carolina: 262 miles
East Carolina: 269 miles
Georgia State: 279 miles
Georgia Southern: 313 miles
Old Dominion: 349 miles
+ two SBC West teams

We should travel well in 2024: 5 of our 6 Away games are less than 6 hours from Boone by car.

Football championship is held at the stadium of the higher ranked division winner right now. Pensacola doesn’t have a football stadium we could use and I’m not sure if we plan on moving to a neutral site at any time.

Got to get a long term deal with UCA if they move up to FBS.

LOL, UCA has massive financial issues, they aren't moving to FBS...

I did some interesting numbers on mileage. App makes out like bandits and can easily drive to every East opponent. Georgia Southern struggles to drive to more than 3 teams. Its roughly equidistant from Georgia Southern to Arkansas State and Georgia Southern to Marshall.

On the West side, ULL gets the easy drives, Texas State gets frequent flyer miles.
