Don't forget the A State game.

I swear to this day that USM crowd of 44669 was well over 50,000 a LOT of folks were not counted in that game. People were herded through grates with no turnstiles by the Park Board. I would even say compare the USM photo with the A&M photos. That crowd (A&M) was an actual turnstile count. No question the USM crowd is larger.

Oh well let's break a record Saturday shall we?

If we had traffic control for that USM game it may have sold out. Tons of folks just turned around and went home. IIRC it was a Thursday or Friday. rush hour kick off

The weather forecast is now in for Saturday evening and its showing perfect football weather. I'll be surprised if there are any tickets left to buy on gameday.

I agree, at its peak the USM game probably had 50K plus. Didn't hurt that USM brought a nice group too. But not as many as A&M did.

I really hope we get a sellout Saturday. Next 3 days of hard push could get us close. It would be HUGE to announce a sellout Friday.

I do think we need to be doing a media/social media blitz to people about where to park, etc. I know we're doing some of that but it needs to be in-your-face. Saturday has potential to be a snarl even under the best of circumstances.

Am I the only one that has noticed not a single Gameday Traffic sign on the interstates? There were always gameday traffic signs for Legion Field that had been there for a century. Meanwhile this brand new stadium thrown right in the middle of a brand new segment of interstate with new wild ramp configurations and what appears to be plenty of road closures, has no directional signage? I was downtown this weekend, maybe they have added them since.

I believe I saw the BJCC post somewhere that they planned on using electronic message boards on the side of various roads and the interstate. So they may not put those out until later this week.

RE: Opening Game Ticket Sales
I looked at a hotel for that reason, LairDweller. Westin is sold out. Sheraton has a few rooms left, nothing less than $217. Redmont had only a few left, none viewable online, but they were more than $400 per night. Tutwiler is sold out. Some of the hotels around UAB had a few open, cheapest I found was $162 plus tax so you're looking at $200+

In addition to UAB-Liberty, it's Talladega weekend + Ole Miss at Alabama bringing people into town also. Rooms at a premium.

I guess that explains why I couldn't reserve a rental car

Excuse me if this has already been discussed, but is it possible to purchase tickets and donate them to the Athletic Department for their discretion. I know we have had ways of donating tickets to Veterans in the past. Again, if this has been discussed, I apologize.

There is also a rental car shortage nationally which is leading to some CRAZY rates in some cities. Back at the start of the pandemic when travel shut down, a lot of the rental companies sold off large chunks of their car inventory. Now there's a shortage.

This is a great idea. I wish UAB would run a resell/donate secondary market like some pro teams do. I'd gladly donate tickets I'm not going to be able to use, or buy some extra Blaze's Corner tickets, if I knew they were getting into the hands of people who would use them. Kids groups like Big Brothers / Big Sisters, military, police/firefighters, families of the long-term hospitalized, etc. I'd gladly support something along those lines.

I've emailed the athletic department. I'll post the info I receive, if they get back to me. I know we are late in the game but I'm certain we all want to do what we can to make it a sellout.

I know this can be done for our salute to the military game we have each year but it would be nice to be able to do this for every game.

Yes , it can be done. They sent something earlier about it. You commit and they find an organization as you mentioned above to provide tickets.
