#1 takeaway from this article is that UAB is gone. Aresco swung for the fences but I think he ultimately comes up short.

They abhor schools located outside marketz, and ESPN gets to call all the shots.
That's how you get crap like Tulane and UAB over Southern Miss. Hope they enjoy woke-ass ESPN.

If anything the mountain west should go into Texas for some schools

If this list is true , UAB, FAU and UTSA would probably get in. I'd like to bring marshall with that group

The AAC schools wont touch Marshall. Thats why we are not mentioned.
It says a list of 10-12 schools led by FAU and UTSA. So one spot would be left if those 2 and UAB go.

ESPN owns the sun belt and mac already. So no need to bring them. I'd think Marshall would be on the list

If the Mtn West play doesn't work out (and I'm skeptical it will) then I'd be happy with this collection of 4 making the move to the AAC.
I would love that group.

I don't get why marshall wouldn't be considered. They are winning in football and have been better in basketball.

It's less about markets with this plan B highlighted in the article. UAB and FAU have each won 2 of the last 4 football titles . They aren't just market adds. And UTSA is improving a lot . Heck could be in the conference title game or even win it this year.

The MW teams won't go to the AAC unless ESPN piles on the money. If that doesn't happen and they backfill with UAB, FAU, and UTSA then I am a happy camper. Marshall, ODU, and USM can bolt for the belt and play some of the best football in the G5. Potential is a dangerous game either way, but I'll take better programs over markets anyday.

Well maybe if USM "Woke-up" their dead azz program you would be getting overlooked by better conferences.

This is why I am glad to have you as a Blazer! I was about to reply, and just deleted it.

Among those teams under consideration are FAU and UTSA of Conference USA. Both are seen by some AAC officials as having the potential to becoming the new UCF -- emerging programs in a large, football-mad markets that could make a national splash under the right conditions.

Those fans that feel like their team is being left behind dont realize it UAB, FAU, and UTSA left and CUSA added Liberty to the east and Middle to the west...

with in 3 to 5 years this conference is over taking AAC.

Someone in the west takes the place of UAB and its not going to be hard. Hell S. Miss will only have to beat Tech for the win (LOL) UAB does not win OOC games or at least against anyone decent. I like FAU but like UAB have they beat anyone OOC? I would take Liberty in a swap any day of the week. UAB basketball will be missed but you get rid of two bottom basketball programs.

With whats left in the AAC and the addition of those 3 schools. I honestly dont see the AAC making any kind of leap in getting better. Like the CUSA west someone has to win in the AAC but like CUSA 2.0...

once those name schools are gone. Will anyone care?

If the AAC actually pulls this "Western Continental Coup" off I'd just like to go ahead and congratulate UNT, UTSA, UTEP and Rice on your impending move to the Mountain West. Don't forget us little people while you're living the High Life up in the Rockies!

Still hate the artificial power that ESPN wields.
And playing on Tuesday or Wednesday night on actual television would help us, not hurt us.
I can hate ESPN and still want to be included in some semblance of a conference.

I really wish the Belt would invite USM and WKU, because when we finally get out of this slump, there is hella payback due.

Same here. And even if this does happen, this would create what some here would really like - a decent eastern-based G5 league.

In S. Miss 2nd best season in the last 20 years S. Miss only stayed with in 2 TDs of Western because Brohm called off the offense after 3/4 of the game. Not only that S. Miss players were dropping like flies...

Big ole Western must have knocked 10 players out of that game. You cant handle the truth

0-4
0-10
Zero wins for S. Miss

I'm optimistic but I'll believe it when I see it. If it happens I would love for USM to go with us. I would hate to have to miss out our yearly trips to that toxic waste dump of a basketball arena. I am just thankful no one ever has to play in our old toxic waste dump Legion Field again. I'd love to implode that **** hole.

That's my hope. If mountain west schools plus UAB go to the AAC then then mountain west can take the Texas schools and the remaining 9 plus liberty would be great.

I don't think this is going to work and the AAC is turning into a dumpster fire. Why would ESPN throw money at this? Most of the schools have no real name recognition or value on a national scale.
