Goodman is an SEC hack who halfarse pretends to be a neutral observer. Don't expect a truly neutral column from him, he's going to slip in a few digs damn near every time.

But, but, but…..parking!

Assuming sarcasm here. However, there are twice as many parking spots available around Protective Stadium in comparison to LF.

It's going to be a great change of atmosphere for UAB, Birmingham, and everyone attending.

Yes, it was sarcasm. The minute anyone starts talking about how great the new stadium is, the automatic response from the haters and naysayers is, “Yeah, but there won’t be any place to park!”

Goodman is a hypocrite and an example of who he really should be preaching to: the UAB grad who is not a UAB fan. Why not a "be true to your school" column?

Several Kaleidoscope alums went to Florida to work after graduation. We get stuck with Goodman. I would have much preferred Tim Stephens be in his spot.

Stephens would have been lightyears better, but he has a far better job. Besides, he and his wife are moving to Florida soon.

Did he call us UAB?
If he did, then he gets us.
We all need to understand that we are currently the favorite to repeat as conference champions. I hope we get used to being poked.
If we do what he said, we will be doing great. And greatness will get us where we want to go.
I kind of like being poked. It sure beats being ignored.

There is no argument with your numbers, but for those not familiar with the lay out, there needs to be adequate signage leading the new fans to those parking places so they are comfortable driving there. We are trying to attract a lot of folks who may not be familiar with the new facility and its supporting parking spaces. Some Liberty fans may never have even been to B'ham before.

Geezus, what a hack he is. But let's get to the point of where he's wrong: UAB fans are not our target market. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Regulars will say thru the LF experience and they will be richly rewarded. It's the "sometimes," and "if UAT/API aren't playing," and the "hell no, I ain't going to LF" fans. It's the clear and obvious "ugh, I've got to do an UAB game" employees that are ticket takers, turnstile takers (although that is going to be mitigated in large part by digital tickets" and concession managers. Up until I migrated to Nashville, and certainly since The Return, enemies of UAB aren't really a public obstacle. They hate, laugh at, antagonize UAB fans just because we're here. It proves them wrong when UAB succeeds and no one is more angry than someone proven that what they believe and preach is undeniably wrong. It's the urge to protect one's ego.

The bigger obstacle is the guy/gal that went to that one game at LF (either with a friend, with a company allotment, etc.) and was not impressed. We can clearly all agree with that point. But, since the main obstacle is the dreary ride to LF then seeing what 22k looks like in a 70k, crumbling POS (let's face it...the team's performance was tied to the LF environment whether we wanted it to be or not) our target market should be getting those people back just ONE time. Fortunately, we have an "in" on recruiting those people since they are still our family, friends, co-workers.

I know Joe, he’s a good guy, but he was just incredibly dense in that half-baked column and insulting as hell.

The nebulous “UAB Fans need to support their team” line in the kind of dumb***, low-IQ screech you would expect from low-IQ talking heads who spend too much time reading Tider Insider and worshipping at the SEC altar with no insight whatsoever into UAB because they have never actually spent much time thinking about UAB. And Joe of all people should be smarter than this, FFS.

“UAB Fans” are the solution. We are having this moment BECAUSE of the most diehard, hardworking fan base in American. Geezus, Joe, use your brain.

UAB fans have their time and money and hearts and blood and tears to make this happen, and along the way we have worked out rear ends off to put butts in those seats, too. We bought extra tickets, talked up the team, did the job of the damn media on social media because they are too lazy to do it the way it should be done. WE (and the program) have grown that base from a few thousand before the shutdown to a consistent 19-25k that that show up every game. Do we need more? Heck yeah. Do we have a tremendous OPPORTUNITY both for UAB and Bham? Heck yeah. But is not some “moment of truth.”

It isn’t on “UAB Fans” to fill Protective. Stop finger-wagging us and insulting us. Seriously, get a clue. Use that brain a bit beyond “guuuhhhh, captain obvious, grunt, dur-hur dur-hur duh-hur.” You are the columnist of the the largest news organization in the state so BE BETTER.

It is on people who aren’t these diehards to BECOME “UAB Fans” and to discover there is a great product and great venue to join the bandwagon. They will be treated kindly, invited to tailgate and will have a great time.

Those issues are finally gone but it’s going to take years to build a hard core fan base large enough to sell out protective on a constant basis.

I think you guys are on your way. The new stadium looks great. Will the new stadium work well with tailgating? I think a lot of ECU’s past attendance success can be linked somewhat to a great game day tailgating atmosphere. And what’s your pre game intro like? That helps too. Our team enters the field to Jimi Hendrix”s “Purple Haze”. A nice new stadium, which you will have with a good game day atmosphere will help get the attendance numbers up, along with a good team playing on the field, that’s the most important. I will check you all out when the stadium officially opens. Good luck.
