That's gonna depend on what type of AAC UAB would be in if offered an invite. ECU, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa, or Temple isn't going to excite the general fan. Matter fact, I don't even think you can rely on fanbases of other teams traveling well to Birmingham unless they are in state like Troy or Alabama St.
I think as long as UAB continues to play well that within itself will draw folks to their games. Same applies to basketball.
Agree, it'd be great to get into an AAC with Houston, Cincinnati, UCF, Memphis, etc., but even if they are not in it, we still should be playing nearby regional opponents like Troy, USA, Alabama State, Alabama A&M, Georgia Southern, Louisiana, Georgia State, FAMU, etc., who can bring some fans.
I'd like to see UAB do its best to get a schedule that includes
1 P5 road guarantee
1 low P5/solid regional G5 home and home
1 in-state G5 (Troy, USA rotating home and home)
1 in-state FCS
This would help attendance and it does seem to be the general strategy. I know we have upcoming games against Troy, USA, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Louisiana, FAMU as well as road game guarantees against LSU, Georgia and Arkansas. I'd like to lock in Alabama State and A&M on Labor Day weekend every other year to open the season. Not a big fan of the home and homes with Louisiana-Monroe and UConn simply because they are not likely to be very good.
Hoping the new stadium and a move to the AAC makes it easier to get a p5 to come to Bham.
